The Doctor had exited the TARDIS in search of more information. He'd already learnt from one of his future selves that none of the TARDISes worked, but he still needed details. Somehow, some way there had to be a way to reverse this ( Read more... )

"Doctor!"

Oh, she hoped it was him. So far, it seemed everyone she thought she knew hadn't been who she thought. But hope seized Sarah Jane again when she noticed a familiar head of white hair.

"Oh, Doctor! Is it you?"

"And who else would I be, Sarah Jane?" He couldn't tell if she was the original Sarah he had travelled with or the more recent version, but that didn't really matter. With a glint in his eye, he gathered her up in a great big hug.

"Quite possibly someone that doesn't remember me," she says softly, glancing away once she pulls away from the hug. "Or what happened."

"How could I ever forget you?" He grins at her. "My Sarah Jane."

"Because he's gone. And Harry doesn't remember a thing and there's another bloody Sarah Jane Smith floating about and almost everything's gone."

Sarah Jane takes a deep breath, blinking back any burgeoning tears.

"It just... oh, it stood to reason that you wouldn't remember anything either."

"Well, I do. So..." The Doctor stopped. The sight of Sarah so upset, when she was usually so independant, left him at a loss for words.

Finally he said, "Liz and Jo still remember. Why don't you come back to the TARDIS. We'd love to have you."

So there were others. Liz and Jo, her velvet loving Doctor, the Doctor in leather. They all remembered. They were all here before. It was certainly intriguing information, to say the least.

But not something to focus on now, what with that invitation hanging in the air.

"Oh, I'd love to, Doctor." She paused, debating how best to phrase it. "But there's another you about - tall and skinny with messy brown hair - and he already offered me a place and. He needs a friend. I need a friend too, right now."

"I see." He didn't want to be jealous of his other self, but...."Are you sure about this?"

Sarah nods.

"I don't know if I can leave him. He just arrived, you see, and well, it's you. You know how hard it is to say no to you - when you're not giving some idiotic request," she adds in quickly, grinning a tad cheekily,

"I suppose I can understand that." The Doctor shoved his hands in his pockets, and a hint of a smile crossed his face. Flattery was always nice, and he'd be magnanamous and ignore the insult that had followed. "But if you ever want to come back, you still have a place with me."

That last bit earns a hug. Her grin grows more genuine and Sarah nods.

"I won't let you forget that, Doctor."

"You better not." The grin has reached his eyes now. "Don't forget me even when you're with that...that toothpick."

"He is rather skinny, isn't he?"

She laughs. It feels good to laugh.

"And yet, he still gives wonderful hugs."

"And I don't." He looked at her sternly. "I shall miss you, Sarah."

"Oh, it's not like we can go anywhere," she retorts, giving him a playful slap on the arm.

He deserves it, what with acting like he'll never see her again.

"Doctor, it's a room to sleep in. That's all."

"Well, then, I expect you to come by often. And bring the toothpick with you. If you like him, he might be one of my more tolerable incarnations." He grinned at her, remembering how he'd prevented his Fifth self from chatting her up in the Death Zone. Though if he tried that now, she'd probably punch him or something.
