$40,000 Piece of Paper

It's starting to depress me... after 4 long years in college, I'm staring at requirements for internships and I feel completely inadequate. Wasn't college supposed to help you gain skills you will need in the real working world? Then why am I not qualified to be an INTERN!? Is it because I didn't follow my heart and become an art major? Is it UCI's fault for stressing the importance of Java instead of C/C++ programming? Is it the company's fault for being too picky about their interns? It does seem like the qualifications are the same, so why not just sign up for the real job instead? I have an artistic eye, but not the schooling behind it. Instead I have a $40,000 piece of paper that says I can program software. Now I have to take more classes after I graduate to learn the art stuff I need to succeed. Meanwhile, how do I get an internship without those skills? It seems impossible...

Sometimes it makes me want to cry.
