Marisa could probably see Aya coming from a mile away but damn, it had been the whole summer. Yep, it was clear that Marisa wasn't going to escape without at least one big hug. Because here comes Aya sprint down the hallway.

Oh Gods! That would be one track star coming full speed down the hall with that look on her face.

Marisa was momentarily caught by indecision. On one hand, she hadn't seen Aya all summer and talking to her on the phone never did cut it. On the other hand this was Aya running full speed at her with intent to hug. Should she duck into the open room next to her or just take it?

The hacker stepped back once, glanced to the potential escape route, but then stopped. She closed her eyes and braced herself for impact. The things she suffers for her best friend.

Aya didn't slam into her but she hit forcefully and threw her arms around Marisa in a giant hug.

"I missed you, babe!"

Forcefully was enough. Marisa let out a muffled 'oof' just as she was engulfed by Aya's hug. A moment of squirming to get her arms better positioned and she hugged her friend back.

"Missed you too, ze. Now let go before I bite you."

"Sheesh."

She steps back and despite her complaining, is still smiling.

"Did you get my text about Momiji?"

"Of course, I did." Marisa chuckled, remembering the whoop of joy she'd given upon reading the text and the looks she'd gotten because of it.

"Guess this means the wedding's off," she joked. "Glad I didn't invest in real rings."

"No way!" Even if Marisa was wearing a hat, Aya still had the height advantage. And she used it to pop off her cap and rub the girl's head. "The wedding is still on. Momiji can just join in."

"Oi! Give that back!" Cue Marisa trying to get her hat back. "That's new and real leather!"

Aya pops it back on Marisa's head. "If I can't do this kind of thing to you, what good are you?"

"Notice I reacted to the hat and not you doing that annoying head rub thing or the fact that you've thrown Momiji into our wedding." Marisa gets the hat back on straight.

"I'm just... feeling weird. Floe didn't come back this year, got a nasty email from my father this morning because he found out I gave the shrine a huge donation to repair the leak in the company's name... and I'm kinda, um... nervous."

She smiled then. "But I'm really happy for you. The two of you make out yet?"

"Wow. Your dad should just back off or something. It's not like he can't write it off in taxes or anything. And sorry to hear about Floe." She frowned at Marisa's situation, almost to mimic her smile.

"No, Momiji is a real prude but I'll deal with it."

"That's what I told him! And the shrine's had a leaking roof for months now. I think he's just pissed I did it without asking him first. It's been even worse between us since I tried to get out of that damn arranged marriage."

Marisa sighed and shrugged. "You'll eventually wear her down. You're kinda like a force of nature at times, ze. You know, Floe being gone makes me wish I'd given in once. Just once..."

Time to head down the hall to Aya's room as opposed to continuing to talk about all this in the hall.

"Don't worry about that anymore. You're here and I've got your back."

She threw her arm around Marisa to keep her close, in case she was still worried. An easy move since they were walking down the hall.

"Give in to Floe?"

"Oh, yeah, you didn't spend much time around us. You could cut the UST with a frickin' butter knife, ze." Now steering them into Aya's room and shutting the door.

"She wanted to... and, when I don't lie to myself, I wanted to, but we were roommates, so I never gave the right signals back."

"I already knew she'd bang you the second you were okay with it."

Thankfully, that was said behind closed doors.

"I was a little jealous because I would have."

Yes, it was a good thing that was said behind closed doors. Marisa wasn't exactly open with her interest in girls.

She gave Aya a confused look at that last statement. "And why didn't you? It's not like she was actually dating anyone."
