[It's a very energetic, brisk voice that cuts through the slight hiss of background sound. She's in her office, so it's not hard at all to hear her, but her accented voice is naturally strident and maybe a little loud. The accent is slightly hard to place, but anyone from the south of England-- ( Read more... )

I would like to present a formal notice of medical exemption.

Medical exemption? As long as you've a note, you should be fine. You'll still need to check in with me, of course, but that's just for attendance records. And I suppose I should ask what you'll be doing with the time allotted for the class, too-- in case I need to get in contact with you or there's an emergency.

You can have it sent to my office, if you like, or bring it to the next class period.

I'll make certain you have the note. It's actually a medical exemption for the entire semester.

I'm not certain if the previous coach told you, but I have a plethora of medical issues that prevent me from doing much physical activity. I've a friend who will help me meet the minimum requirements, but I can't do much more beyond that.

As for what I'll be doing... Reading, I suppose.

Medical reasons are fine. I just want to make sure I know how to account for you if something happens. Are you going to be in a specific room, or can you stay outside if we're doing something there?

I should certainly hope so.

I take it you've settled in nicely. Found some woman or another to take you in?

Of course I have. She's a nice old widow that makes me breakfast and lets me live in her giant mansion. You?

A little old lady, Cross? Someone's quite the charmer.

Anyway, you know me. I prefer to live alone. I even managed to find an adorable little place in town.

Well, sports are fun! I was getting a little antsy from not running around as much since the semester started.

Well, I intend to keep you from getting that antsy again. We'll be trying a little bit of everything, I think, so I promise you you won't be bored.

Welcome to Reims, Miss Madison. I'm Francois de Coulmier. I've taught middle and high school Latin here for three years. If you need any help settling in or finding your way around, let me know. I'll be glad to assist.

Ah, thank you, Mr. de Coulmier. I'm still getting my sea legs around here, of course, but I'll keep your very kind offer in mind. This is a much larger school than I'm accustomed to teaching at. My own wasn't a quarter so large.

Ah, yes? Where did you teach before?

Ah, it was a small school near where I grew up. Mostly it was student-teaching, as well-- and that never feels quite as enormous as the real thing, does it?

That's exciting! Will you be playing against the football team, too? [ She asks, being on said team ] I don't think the coach told us about this yet.

And I can vouch for Patchy, too--

[ A beat while she backpedals. ] Ah, I mean, Patchouli. I'm the friend she was talking about. [ Beaming! ]

I had intended to keep the classes playing against one another, since I'd imagine the football team here is much more accustomed to playing than some of the students. But maybe an exhibition match, with a volunteer team, might be a good idea-- I'll have to talk to your coach about it.

Ah, Patchouli's friend. It's very kind of you to help her out. She's lucky, to have such a good friend at her side. May I ask your name?

That sounds like it'd be a lot of fun. [ Meiling was psyched up already. ] I'm hoping some of them get really into it and decide to try out, sometime~

And I'm lucky to have Patchouli off the field, believe me. [ She smiles. ] Of course, Miss Madison. I'm Mei-Ling Hong.

I can only hope so-- team sports aren't just fun games, but they teach some valuable lessons about teamwork and social interaction, too. I'll have a chat with your coach, and we'll see about a match, hm?

It's a pleasure, Mei-Ling. If there's anything I can do or anyone you need me to talk to to make things easier for Patchouli and yourself, please do tell me.
