SDCC09 STUFF!

Jul 31, 2009 13:39

Um, remember when I warned ya'll I was going to be making lots of pic-heavy posts? Well, it starts! And this stuff is just the, uh, stuff!!

Usually when I get back from a trip I like to take photos of all the goodies I've collected so I can 1) remember where the heck I got it all and 2) not have to dig it all out of hidden and protected places in order to plan what the heck I'm gonna do with it all, eventually. XD And as with everything to do with this trip, it makes it so much better that I get to share it with some of the greatest friends I've ever had. <3

Enjoy!

All the toy-like things I gathered (except a flask I got at SD Zoo which I forgot to include X3).  Can you spot the cuties that didn't come from the USA?  ^^

Plushies galore!  ^^  The TMNT came from the Convention, the gorgeous sea turtle came form the SD Zoo, and Buck (from Ice Age 3) came from the La Brea Tar Pits Museum.

My Con badge, including the Turlte Forever hunt badges, and an adorable Raph pin from Tokka (<3!), has now joined other such estemed items as my engagement necklace hung over the post at the head of my bed.  ^^

Not bad for a less than a buck!  Aiden loves R2D2 and C3PO atm, so couldn't resist getting this for him.

Toby adores the movie Cars, and for $5 each from the Mattel booth these were damn good value!

Got these three figurines, 2 Leo and 1 Don, (along with the R2D2 and 3 Powerrangers bikes) from a retailer at the Con selling all these items for $1 each or 7 for $5!  The kids love 'em!  ^^

The Limited Edition poster (only 100 of these babies) the Mirage crew were selling at the Con to raise money for friend of theirs who is sick with cancer.  Kevin Eastman penciled, Peter Laird inked (and signed), and Steve Lavigne coloured.  I got Kevin and Steve to sign mine at the Con. <3  This one is gonna get framed and hung somewhere about the house.

Each character was drawn by a different Mirage artist in this one, and they all signed it prior to the Con.

Michael Dooney rocks.  He signed this one for me at the Con.

Michael Dooney totally rocks! (Hard to see, but he signed this one for me too, down by Raph's foot)

And Eric Talbot is pretty damn awesome too, especially in how he draws Splinter.

Another Michael Dooney poster, this one he was selling later in the Con (I think he ran out of the earlier prints XD).  And since Aiden is a huge Transformers fan atm I had to grab this one for him.  Gonna frame it and hang it in his room.

OMG, that's not a turlte!!  XD  The guys from Penny Arcade were there, and were lovely to not only meet, but totally awesome in giving me this poster for free after I managed to lose the first one I brought from them the day before.

I didn't buy this one, this was my sole TMNT item of clothing before the Con.  I now realise I have a problem, I'm addicted to buying shirts!  Let that be due warning for you...

One thing I noticed when going through these shirts to photograph them is that these last four have the TMNT movie logo in different places.  Raph's is on the sleeve, Mike's on the left hip, and Leo and Don have theirs on the top of the back of the shirt.

Moar non-turtle geekery.  I is a Firefly fan, and couldn't resist these.  It's hard to see here, but behind Mal is Serenity herself, stood on end, with her nose by Mal's head.

Serenity's crew.  Btw, the guy to the right holding the kick-arse gun is Jayne.  He's also voicing one of the characters in Kevin Eastman's new movie project War of the Worlds.  Fucking fantastic R-rated anime FTW!  But more on that later...

I didn't forget the kids, got these two Ben10 shirts for the boys to share.

And last but not least, a hat stalker_of_doom gave to me after she scored a heap of hats from some nutty lady staying at Lucky D's.  Thanks SoD!  <3  And the back-pack style tote-bag I got free with the 2 Firefly shirts.

And FINALLY we get to the comics.  Saved the best for last, I have.  ^^

Tristian Jones is teh awesome.  He signed these two copies of Tales for me (love Hun's new tat!  XD).  Raphael: Me Myself and I was a comic I took over to get signed by Kevin, which he was happy to do.  *swoons*.  And the copy of Unmentionables means so much to me not just because Kevin also signed that one at the Con, but because kinectra  gifted the comic itself to me.  Thank you, and much love chica! <3 <3 <3!

This was another of my comics that I took over to the Con.  The only UY comic I owned prio to the Con.

Stan signed it.  ^^

Again, I owned this before the Con, and lugged it over to the USA.

And Stan signed it.  ^^

And I increased my UY collection, not to mention a few others, quite a bit while at the Con.  Top left is a lovely, detailed book I got from the La Brea Tar Pits Museum.  Bottom left is the promo book for War of Worlds, that I got signed by Kevin (Exectuive Producer) and Joe Pearson (Producer/Director/Writer).  Bottom right is a kids book illustrated by Steve Lavigne.  He signed the inside cover to each of my kids, and added three extra love-hearts to the doodle-signature he'd included there in each copy pre-Con.  Steve is such a sweet-heart.  <3

Moar stuff gathered.  The Groo was one of my original comics I took over, and got signed by both Sergio Aragones (artist) and Stan Sakai (letterer).  The signature top left was from one of the guys that plays a canon character on the MMOG City of Heroes.  I got that, and the copy of Drawin' Girls from Michale Dooney for Rob.  The two Stan Sakai sketchbooks are both signed.  And I got the card (bottom right) signed by Stan when he ran out of the 25th Anniversary of UY posters at the Dark Horse signing.  Which happened an hour before it was advertised, hense why I missed out on getting the poster.

Thankfully Cynlee, Buslady and I managed to terrorise a poor Dark Horse booth attendant into 'finding' some more of the posters!  Which we got Stan to sign later at his own booth.

The reverse side of the 25th UY Poster.

Some general TMNT giveaways.  Top left is the cards from ubisoft we were given to access our pics online.  (will post my pics later).  Top right is a promo flyer for the re-release box sets for the original toon.  Bottom right is a giveaway we received at the TMNT bus from the ATA.  And last but not least, the info on how to get all the buttons and my ticket stub for the showing of Turtles Forever.  Words cannot express how much I loved that movie.

In case you don't know it already cynlee  is one of the most amazing, generous and lovely people in our fandom.  The two novelizations and colouring book she gave to me for my kids.  And she tried to give me the copy of Shell Shock, after she'd gotten it signed by everyone at the Con.  I insisted on giving her something for it, and we settled on $40.  A huge bargain for this book, esp given it was in mint condition.  Until I my damn water bottle leaked and warped one corner.  I was so releived I'd aleady brought it off Cyn, I would have curled up and died completely if I'd managed to damage it prior.

And here's the books I actually got from Mirage/Heavy Metal at the Con.  Top left is the book everyone was gifted for attending the Turltes Forever showing.  Top right is the Mirage Vol 1 collection, mine was the first Kevin got to ever see!  (squee!).  And he confirmed it was his original lettering, for those who may have been worried it might have been 'edited'.  Bottom left is the hard-back collection Kevin Eastman was selling of his favourite Mirage comics (he coloured Raphael; Me myself and I.  Fuck, it is beautiful!!), and the hard-back bottom right shouldn't really need much introduction.  XD

Kevin signed and drew this awesome Raphael in my copy of the 25th Anniversary book on Preview night.

This sketch graces the inside cover of Bodycount, although this work was done by Kevin pre-con.  I don't care, it's lovely Leo!  ^^

I got everyone (even Gary Richardson the Mirage Ceo) to sign the inside cover of the Mirage Vol 1 collection. <3

And I got lots of signatures and free sketches.
Top L->R = Steve Barron (Director of the first movie), Lloyd Goldfine (Producer 4kids toons), Ernie Reyes Jnr (Keno from the second movie), a free sketch from Steve Lavigne
Middle L->R = Galen Walker (Director of the CGI and upcoming movie), free sketch from Eric Talbot, free sketch from Tristian Jones (LOVE that Splinter!!), free sketch from Michael Dooney
Bottom L->R - Two wonderful prints from Tokka ($5 each!  I keep thinking I should send him more money for these), and a sketch page taken from the colouring book by Steve Lavigne ($10, but I wanted moar Steve stuff, so was happy to pay it).

And last, but definitely not least, my big spending/comissioned pieces.  Top right are two pieces I commissioned from Dan Berger for $1 each on the Saturday at the Con.  Figuring I had overdosed a bit on Raph-centric stuff, I decided to go back on the Sunday and commission him to do the other three turtles and Casey.  Unfortunately he had run out of the small sized paper, so I just had to get them done on the larger sized stuff (damn eh?  NOT!  LOL!).  Still, even those he only charged $5 for.  I was more than happy to pay that!.  The coloured version of Raph was a piece Steve Lavigne was selling for $50.  It's a signed Peter Laird original that Steve coloured pre-Con (ike a couple of years ago 'pre-con').  Steve was also sweet enough to add his signature to it for me.

The final picture was actually a free sketch that Jim Lawson did for me.  Since I'm not a fan of how he draws anatomy, but love his vehicles, I'd asked him for a quick sketch of the Shell Cycle on the Saturday.  He wasn't sure what I was talking about at first, since he's not hugely familiar with the toon side of things.  And he'd also just finished a sketch of Klunk for someone else just as I was asking him, and when I commented that I was almost tempted to ask him for Klunk too (you'll see why when I dig out the photo I took of that sketch, soooo cute!), he offered to include Klunk in my picture, if I got him a reference pic for the Shell-cycle.  A dig around online, 25c to print it, and giving Jim most of the day unhindered to draw the sketch resulted in this absolutely awesome piece.  The plan for all of these is to get a big-arse frame and hang them all together somewhere pride-of-place in the house.  I'll also be scanning all of these pieces at some point, so if you want to see them more clearly just give me a hoi and I'll post the scans too.

Anywho, that's it for now.  Moar (real Con/SD Zoo/adventures in LA) pics will be along soonish.  Just as soon as I quit crashing and sleeping for 10 hour stretches at a time.  ;D
