Milton may be accurate, in some cases

What though the field be lost?
All is not lost; th' unconquerable will,
And study of revenge, immortal hate,
And courage never to submit or yield.

It's been far too long since we vowed, in the depths of Hell, to attempt to overthrow Heaven once again.

I believe that most of us have forgotten that vow.

What is left for us, if not that?

*well, you had to expect that the words "Lucifer" and "emo" would somehow trigger the presence of one former angel*

*smiles -- a little hopeless one, but there it is* For you, my dear, there might at least be some hope of redemption still.

*dryly, but not exactly harshly -- all right, maybe a bit brutally realistic in the second sentence*

Or you could just give up your façade and simply join us. Why do you insist on taking a course that causes you so much misery?

*winces, and is tempted to just leave, but he stays there (probably against his own better judgement)* Why do you insist on taking a course that causes you so much pain?

Just as how you once said you do not despair: there is no misery for me -- not quite as much as I would have in your position, at any rate. The only flaw is feeling that, knowing that, the driving force behind why I've taken this path refuses to listen to reason.

*well, ouch; will retaliate with bitterness*

Perhaps this is simply what He has planned for us.

And why does your sort -- *lumps Raphael with all the other angels with a wave of his hand (though he's not technically an angel anymore)* -- always insist that your reasoning is right? How do you even know?

*doesn't quite reply in kind, but it's something close to it, at any rate*

Perhaps it is His intention. *ironically* As you would put it, He always has had a strange sense of humor.

*half-smiles and shrugs, a little ruefully* We don't know, really, but it is better than assuming we're wrong. I'm sure you would know how it is.

*pauses, briefly*

I suppose that with His intentions towards me, the only thing I can assume is that I'm wrong.

*smirks a little, perhaps, and there's some irony in his voice* You could assume as much, but would you accept it, my dear?

*dryly* If I had accepted it, I don't think I would be in the position I am now.

*usually this would be said in a sarcastic way, but this time there's a touch of anger in his voice* You and your damned pride, Lucifer.

*looks a bit taken aback by the anger, actually, but he's unwilling to admit it*

Of course.

*a short laugh that's almost bitter* Of course, of course.

*stares at Lucifer silently, blankly, before shaking his head* This is useless. Why do I even...

*and with that, he begins to walk away*

*Lucifer might raise a hand, as if to stop him, but it's all behind Raphael's back. He doesn't say anything, though -- his "damned pride" won't let him.

Unfortunately for his pride, his conscience doesn't quite agree with this decision, and he might be seeking out Raphael in a few days on some pretext or another.*
