Matt Bearden is hands-down the best standup in Austin.
I'm constantly amazed that he's not insanely famous.
Last Gas Comedy dot commercial just posted his review of the first FPIA slot that I was in last week.
He is known for reviewing these and being funny and offering a little insight. He wrote this about me:
"Full disclosure: I love Gilstrap. However, I'd like to see a little more Gilstrap the person on stage, and a little less "Lance Gilstrap: Future!Science!Comedian!". I think Gilstrap might too? Maybe less flubs and stutters when your hands aren't bound by a script?"
Matt Bearden isn't just hilarious, he's evidently always right. This is something I've been trying to work on and he nailed one of the bigger reasons I have for wanting to work on it.
It's great to hear it coming from someone like Beardon because it makes me feel like I'm not mis-analyzing my comedy.
Though, really, if he were to tell me that I should dumb it down, I'd probably show up to my next show covered in dick-jokes and soaked in Get-r-done.
