Seriously Writerly Question
Specifically, this is a question for AU fic writers. What do you do when you come across a situation where in order to mesh with the AU, you have to change the speech patterns of a particular character?
To be specific, I'm trying to figure out how to write Thor (of the Avengers) in a modern day, non-Asgardian setting*. I don't really have any legitimate reason to write him in all his "Verily!" glory, but I also feel like his archaic speech patterns are a really defining characteristic of her personality.
So what would you do?
*Even more specifically, it's a High School AU. STOP JUDGING ME.
