This weekend was a long one and enjoyable one indeed! Friday night after work, I treated Jon to a very filling sushi dinner at
Mr. Samarai in St. Charles. The place was a hibachi/sushi combination place and the only complaint was that the sushi bar was small and already filled up by the time we got there. So, we took a tiny little table by the window. We decided not to fill up on any drinks, so we ordered our typical miso/ginger salad and then ordered a plethora of rolls since we were starving! It took FOREVER to get our food since the sushi bar was really busy and there was only 1 sushi chef. When they brought us out the first few, they brought one of the wrong rolls, so we got that for free. Halfway through, they moved us to a booth since our plates weren't fitting on our tiny table. They brought out the rest of the rolls to us and we had a feast. The best roll by far was the lobster tempura... sooo good!!! Afterwards, we were very full, so we drove around for awhile. We decided to get some drinks in downtown St. Charles, so, the first place we stopped at was the Scotland Yard on Main st. They had a good beer selection and a band playing. The band was a very big hippie/folk/rock band, it was pretty entertaining. The singer wasn't wearing any shoes and the bassist was wearing a straw hat. Afterwards, we went next door to Pub 222 and sat outside in their beer garden. It was really cool! It almost reminded me of Athena restaurant in Greek Town. After that, we finsihed up at St. Charlie's pub and got to play lots of our songs on the jukebox. It was definately a fun night with just the two of us.
Saturday afternoon I went to the gym while Jon went on a bike ride and after that, we decided to go check out the Elgin FoxFireFest. I was expecting a little more from it as the beer tent lines were enormous and they had about 7 port-a-potti's for an insane amount of people. The highlight was the grilled corn on the cob I got. Starship and Blues Traveler played, but I found Blues Traveler to be a pretty boring live show (as I think a lot of other people did too). So, we decided to go accross the street to Prairie rock to get good beer that we didn't have to wait 30 min in line for and to have accessible bathrooms. Also, from the beer garden outside, we were able to see the fireworks show, sweet!! We hung around for a bit, and then walked over to the Elgin Public House to go check out the scene. We got some really good beers and again got to dominate the jukebox with our tunes.
Sunday afternoon I drove out to Oakbrook to go to Harlan & Jamie's shower at Maggianos. It was cool because I got to sit with my mom and sister and have a really, really good lunch. It was a 3 course dinner! They had so many people there which equalled so many presents, so we literally watched them open presents for about 2 1/2 hours... it was quite the wait! Regardless, it was a good time and I was happy to get home in the evening to just relax. Jon and I made a very good BBQ pork, grilled corn & mashed potatoes dinner for ourselves and watched Joe Dirt (which I bought for $5 at Walmart).
Monday Jon and I both took the day off because we originally were going to go out to the Indiana Dunes and visit a winery. However, the intense storms all morning and into the day pretty much changed our plans of swimming in the sun to driving to downtown Chicago in the rain to go to the Field Museum. Apparantley everyone else in the world had the same idea since we waited about 45 min in line to buy tickets! We saw the mythological creatures exhibit (and I lost my ticket for the exhibit in the bathroom), however, the guys were nice enough to let me in anyways. I enjoyed the dragons, unicorns and learning about all of the strange creatures that different cultures have believed in all these years. Afterwards, we headed out to go try and check out Kuma's Corner for some Metal inspired burgers. However, when we got there, the place was PACKED and the wait was about 45 min. So, basically, we pretty much decided that the place will always be crowded since we would have had to wait 45 min on a Monday at 2pm. Ridiculous. Anyways, we didn't wait and headed out to North Pier to go to Dick's Last Resort. I've always wanted to go there... but never had a chance. We had a portly waiter who teased us and made us scream out orders out accross the restaurant, but he was fun. We got some awesome souvenier beer glasses with our "big ass beers" and got to draw all over our paper tablecloth, which the waiter seemed to enjoy. Afterwards, we walked down to Navy Pier and watched the Lake for awhile, it was so pretty and I always love the view. We hung out until around 7:15 because we wanted to wait for rush hour to be over. Thank GOD we got in the car when we did because the storm from hell hit us as we were driving. We saw lighting strike twice RIGHT in front of us and we could barely see anything out the windshield. There was even a ton of cars pulled off on the expressway that looked like they got into a 7 car accident or something. It was very scary and I don't think I barely breathed the whole time. We got home in 1 piece to find that people said there was a funnel cloud over our town while we were in the city. Unfortunately for our town, we don't have a tornado siren, so half of the people were just sitting in their living rooms! Anyways, it was definately a fun weekend and i'm looking forward to the next as well.
I signed up to take a Wilton Cake Decorating class tomorrow, so that should be fun... followed by my cousin Declan's birthday party on Saturday and the REN FAIRE! on Sunday. Good times, good times.
