"How could you?" Ruki tried to slap Reita across his cloth-covered face, but the taller man caught his small arm with lightning speed.

Reita glanced around in paranoia at the nameless, faceless people on the dismal street before pulling Ruki's arm and leading him into the narrow, empty alley behind them.  "You shouldn't be here!"  Reita hissed.  They were only a block from the epicenter of Reita's operation and these streets were crawling with Reita's people, all of whom would have a lot of twisted, greedy ideas creeping through their filthy minds if they found out about Ruki.  "There are eyes everywhere."

"I don't care.  I don't care about any of this anymore."  Ruki sputtered angrily.

"This is for your own safety.  Listen to me - -"

"I did!  I believed everything you ever told me.  Look what it got me!"  The hurt, bitter tears Ruki had tried with all his might to hold back forced their way out in cascading waterfalls.  "You were supposed to protect him.  I have never kept anything from my brother, but you said you could keep him safe so I kept my mouth shut.  I lied to Aoi for you.  For us.  Because I have faith in you.  Because I love you."

Reita hung his head. "You shouldn't.  We never should have started this."  He refused to meet Ruki's discerning gaze as he turned to walk away.  "I'll never bother you again."

This was the response Ruki had expected.  He knew exactly what Reita planned to do with himself now.  Ruki also knew it wouldn't solve anything.  And it disgusted him.  "Coward."

Reita paused only for a second after hearing the word Ruki threw at his back, before turning the corner and hustling back to the grind.

"You have no idea what I'd like to do to you."  Kai pressed Uruha up against the wall of his apartment and licked his lower lip.

Uruha tried to turn his head away.  "I bet I can guess."  Uruha glared, trying to look intimidating, but Kai saw the fear in his big, elliptical eyes.

Kai laughed before gripping Uruha's chin and turning his head back so that they were face-to-face.  "I bet you can't."

Uruha's body squirming under the growing pressure of Kai's forcing him against the wall.  And Kai loved it.  The feel of the honey-blond's every twitch, every breath turned him on.  He couldn't wait to feel Uruha writhing underneath him...

"See, I could very easily tie you up and do whatever I damn well please to you, couldn't I?"  Kai began slowly unbuttoning Uruha's shirt, smiling when he saw the other man visibly gulp.  "But I do that all the time.  That's no fun for me."  He let Uruha's shirt hang open and ran his hands up his cool, porcelain skin.  "So you're gonna work for it.  You're gonna please me.  You're gonna do everything in your power to make sure I'm satisfied."

"Like hell I am."

Kai cocked an eyebrow and shrugged.  "Fine.  If you're not gonna give me what I want, I'll go elsewhere.  What's that pretty boy's name?  Aoi?"

Uruha's eyes widened.  "Leave him out of this, Kai."

"No, I don't think I will, baby."  Kai started to pull away from Uruha.  "I think your Aoi knows how to make a man happy.  In fact, I know he does."

Uruha just stared at him, not knowing what to make of all this.  "I don't know what you're talking about, but if you try any of this shit with him, he'll tear you to pieces.  If he even knew what you were trying to do to me right now, he'd - -"

"He'd what?"  Kai interjected.  "You think that kid's a real street-fighter?  He doesn't exactly fit in, does he?  With that long hair, those pretty lips, that tight, sweet body..."  Kai bit his lip, groaning aloud at the mental picture he had just painted for himself.

Uruha knew this was all for his benefit, to try and get a rise out of him.  And it was working.  Uruha shoved Kai back against the same wall he had just been a captive of.  "I said leave him alone."

But Kai wasn't done teasing.  "All I have to do is throw some money on the table and that little bitch will be bent over a table, moaning like its the only sound he knows how to make.  I'm gonna ram that tender little ass so hard, he'll never walk again.  Then I'm gonna cum all over his lips, ruin that perfect face of his.  All cause you couldn't do as you were told."

Uruha shuddered.  "I'll do it."

Reita had been sure that as soon as Ruki was done with him, he would be done with life.  He would simply walk back to his office, open the top left drawer of his desk where he kept his favorite handgun always loaded, and it would just be over.
But now that the moment has come, he wasn't ready to go.  Three words that he never thought he of all people would care about:

I love you.

They changed everything.  Reita wanted to hear them again.  He wanted to say them.  He wasn't done yet.

He lowered the barrel of the gun from his temple and, with a shaky hand, placed it carefully back in the drawer.  He ran out of his office, out of the building and down the block.  He kept running until he was in front of Ruki's door, his breath coming out in heavy pants and his heart beating wildly.

Ruki answered his desperate knocking and before he could even begrudgingly invite the older man in, Reita blurted out, "Don't give up on me yet."

Ruki sighed and pulled Reita in from the cold before shutting the door behind him.  "You know I don't want to.  But it isn't working this way.  I can't keep lying to Aoi.  And I can't just forget what you've done to him."

Reita sat down at the kitchen table and buried his head in his hands.  He was surprised to feel tears burning his eyes.  He never cried.  Not since he was eight years old.  The day his father had left their family, he had run down the street after the car crying and screaming for him to come back.  He stayed out on the sidewalk all day, hoping to see that car come back around the corner, but it never did.  His mother finally came outside, threw a cigarette on the ground and said, Quit that crying.  No one cares if you're sad.  Reita had believed her, and he had grown into a tough, self-reliant man who never, ever cried.  Until today.

Without lifting his head, he pleaded through his tears that now flowed unabated.  "I can fix this, Ruki.  You have to let me fix this.  I can fix this... I can..."

Ruki sat down beside Reita, wrapping his arms around the older man's neck and stroking his hair.  "Sshhh.  I know you can."  Ruki pulled down Reita's constricting bandanna and used his thumbs to wipe the tears from the older man's face.

Reita finally met the younger man eyes and was shocked when, instead of seeing the anger he had seen earlier in the alley, he saw something else.  Reita couldn't decide if it was the hints of forgiveness or acceptance or love, but he summoned all his courage and took a chance he had never taken before, "I... I love you, Ruki."

Ruki smiled and leaned forward, ignoring all the rules Reita had laid out in the beginning of their relationship, and ever-so-gently placed his lips on Reita's.  They stayed perfectly still, holding their breath, as if they were afraid that the slightest bit of movement would pop the bubble of pure love that suddenly encompassed them.

After a few moments, Ruki pulled away.  "I'm sorry.  I know you said not to, I just - -"

Before he could finish, Reita seized his mouth, more fiercely this time, placing his hand on Ruki's neck to pull him in closer.  Ruki opened his mouth a little, sighing with warm breath onto Reita's upper lip.  Reita nipped at Ruki's bottom lip.  Ruki threaded his fingers through Reita's blond hair.  They began to lose themselves in a world they had only dreamed of - -

"What the hell?!?"

Aoi's angry voice snapped them both out of their fantasies.  Reita pulled out of Ruki's grasp and stood up to face the irate man in the doorway.

"How dare you touch him with your filthy hands!"  Aoi's eyes gleamed with wild anger as he grabbed Reita by his shirt and shoved him against the kitchen counter.

"Aoi!  Aoi, stop it!  Let me explain... please!"  Ruki begged from behind Aoi.

Reita took one look at Ruki's frightened face and resolved that, no matter what Aoi did, he should not fight back.

"There's nothing to explain.  What did he do to you?"  Aoi shouted at Ruki, his hands still clutching Reita tightly in case he should decide to attempt an escape.

Ruki squeezed in between the two bigger men and stood facing Aoi, trying to protect Reita with his tiny body.  "Nothing!  He never hurt me, Aoi.  He... he loves me."

Aoi scoffed.  "I'm pretty sure you need a heart in order to love someone, Ruki."

"He does have a heart!" Ruki tried to stifle his tears as he pushed his brother back.  "Don't talk about him that way!"

"Ruki, what the fuck are you thinking?  Have you forgotten what this sorry excuse for a man put me through?  Have you?!?"

Ruki looked down in shame and let his body sag against Reita's behind him. "No, Aoi.  I didn't... I'm sorry.  I just... I love him too.  Please try to understand.  He can help us."

"Help us?"  Aoi shouted incredulously.  "I spent six months getting fucking raped by strangers!  Some help."

"I got you out of that, didn't I?"  Reita's quiet, steady voice cut through the fighting for the first time.

"Yeah, but - -" Aoi stopped as realization spread over his face.  He pushed Ruki harshly out of the way and moved in closer to Reita, gritting his teeth.  "Ruki's the reason you put me in fighting instead?"

Reita nodded, trying to keep his breathing steady as anger boiled inside him.  Despite the situation, Aoi was still under his control.  He still owed him a lot of money.  And this is not how people who owed Reita were supposed to act.  The old Reita would have Aoi lying bleeding on the floor by now.

Aoi glared at Ruki.  "I told you never to get involved in any of this."

Ruki's eyes widened as he realized what Aoi was thinking, that the two of them had make some kind of deal to get Aoi out of the prostitution ring, that Reita had taken advantage of Ruki, that Reita had been doing god-knows-what to him... "Aoi, it wasn't like that!"  Ruki tried to explain, to diffuse the situation.

But it was too late.  Aoi swung a powerful fist into the side of Reita's face, sending his head slamming back against the kitchen counter.

Reita snapped.  He lunged at Aoi, plowing into his torso and sending both of them crashing to the hard tile floor.

Ruki's screaming faded into the background as the two men thrashed at each other.  Punches sailed into each others' faces and necks, kicks struck into hard ribcages, nails ripped through skin, and the apartment was filled with the sounds of grunts, groans, and tearing clothes.

Reita laid a particularly harsh elbow into Aoi's lungs, taking the other man's temporary stillness as an opportunity to get up.  Aoi followed quickly though, throwing an arm around Reita's neck and hitting him again in the face.

Ruki rushed into his bedroom.  He threw clothes and books on the floor, kicking furniture around frantically.  He needed a phone.  He had to call someone for help.

Ruki froze.  There was no one to call.  The only two people he loved were there in his apartment, fighting to the death.

That's when Ruki heard an earth-shattering crash.  He turned and ran back into the kitchen as wood splintered and flew up into the air.  The kitchen table was split in half, collapsing in on itself and on the body that lay in the middle.

Ruki rushed over to the man, kneeling in the blood already pooling on the ground, and touched his eerily still hand, before looking up at the other man in the room, who stood bewildered and breathless.

"What have you done?"

A/N:  I think this fic is getting away from me.  I can't tell if this chapter is shitty or if I just feel shitty right now.  Anyway, for those that may wonder, the Kai/Uruha smut scene wasn't skipped... there's just a chronology I'm trying to keep to.  It'll be in the next chapter.  Unless I scrap the whole thing.
