Today's smattering of randomness:
1. ... is really more like this month's smattering of randomness. I'm working on about five papers right now, which makes me not so inclined sit down and type out anything coherent or thoughtful for LJ. Also, I'm still in this state of academic apathy. The only class I'm actually enjoying right now is my French Lit on Paris in the 19th century. Everything I'm writing for this class is about prostitution, which is rather fun. And a bit sad for me, because apparently there are studies that show that sociologists spend a disproportionate amount of time studying sex, but are much less likely to actually be having it. Sigh.
2. I'm heating garlic naan in a dry saucepan on the stovetop and eating it with hummus, and it's like the best thing ever. My low-tech kitchen skills are awesome. Also, I'm having peanut butter out of the jar and dunking it in sugar. One day I'm going to have to learn to eat like a grownup and it won't be pretty.
3. Arrested Development x 2 today = other best thing ever. I haven't laughed this much since the end of last season.
STEVEHOLT! Annyong! Mole!Tobias vs. Jetpack!George Michael! The family doing Godzilla! ::dies::
4. Finally got around to seeing JM's first two Smallville episodes. All I have to say is, wow, these guys really aren't messing around with the HoYay!, are they. Hee. And god bless TwoP for coming up with "Gayest Look of the Episode", which just ups the entertainment value a hundredfold. In related news, it's
my school! And there's
JM at my school! Worlds collide, man.
5. I taught myself to knit last weekend and now I can't! stop! doing it! Nothing fancy, but I'm actually finding it intensely therapeutic. Almost physically addictive. I'm a bit afraid.
6. I continue to be weirdly obsessed with Harry Potter. It's very distracting, actually. Especially with the new movie coming out soon (eeeee! so excited!) What I really like about the movies is that you actually get to see them grow up. When I'm reading, the characters in my head tend to stay the same young age, and I have to keep reminding myself how old they are and how normal kids that age act. (Except in Book 6, where you finally get to see Harry really growing up and coming into his own, which I think is why I love that one so much.) I've also been reading all the recent press for the movie. All three of the kids are adorable, but I'm particularly impressed with Daniel Radcliffe. He's so enthusiastic, and really thoughtful and articulate about his character, his character arc and relationships, all sorts of stuff in the HP world. It's... refreshing. Also, I would kill for his record collection. Seriously.
7. Franz Ferdinand, You Could Have It So Much Better. Metric, Live It Out. Mmmmm.
8. There are MICE upstairs and I can HEAR THEM THROUGH THE CEILING, SCURRYING about and GNAWING on things. They're REALLY FREAKING LOUD too. Oh my god, EW.
