Ryan finally came home last night after 10 days of not even talking on the phone, and it was SO GREAT to see him! I can believe how much I missed him. You'd think it'd get easier to send him away on business trips as I got used to it, but no. We are going out for a nice dinner tonight, then I leave for my mom's for the weekend. I'll be back for us to spend Christmas together and have a few days to relax before we both head to Chicago and Iowa for more family togetherness (we both have all of next week off!)
This last weekend was also fabulous, if tiring. I had a half day so didn't hit ANY icky traffic on the way to Chicagland and made it in just under 5.5 hours. I met my dad and Deb for dinner, then met Michelle, Sarah, and Matthew Knisley (yeah, the kid's back from Africa and was randomly at IMSA and wanted to hang out!) at a pub in Naperville's riverwalk. When the bars there closed at 1:30, we decided we weren't ready to go yet, so drove to a bar by Michelle's place all the way up by Midway. I definitely did not get home til 5 am and had to get up at 8ish to head to my aunt's in Arlington Heights. I was freaking tired.
[Side note: My grandparents probably think I'm some sort of alcoholic. Every year during college, we did Christmas with them the day after the Exponent's Last Supper, so I'd always show up tired, hungover, unshowered, and late since I'd have to drive home from Purdue.]
So did the whole presents/big dinner thing with them and hung out most of the day, then tried to hang out with Liz for bit. That didn't go so well - she'd also been up super late the night before, so we pretty much sprawled out in her living room and had a half-awake conversation. Brunch with dad Sunday morning, then I stopped to visit Bethany for a bit on the way home (she'd had graduation that day).
I don't think I ever wrote about our Christmas party - Ryan and I threw a cocktail party instead of doing gifts for all our friends in Columbus. I took a half day from work and cooked and baked non-stop and had all sorts of yummy treats that were a hit, and the party was nice. If you haven't had hot chocolate with a little peppermint schnaaps and chocolate liqeuer in it, you are missing out. yummm!
I think that's about it - I hope everyone has an amazing Christmas and that you're lucky enough to spend it with your favorite people!
