What could have been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day turned out to be pretty fantastic after all.
The alarm went off at 4:30 so we could get up and ready and have Ryan dropped off at the airport by 6. For a yucky 10 day business trip, where he gets no cell service and has no phone in his dorm-like room at the test facility.
And then I had to have coffee to stay awake at work, which usually means I crash in the afternoon and end up feeling sick, shaky, and anxious the rest of the day. But that didn't happen yesterday! Instead, I was ultra productive in getting our end-of-the-year-cram stuff done, AND spent almost 3 hours finishing Christmas shopping (well, and me-shopping)
I was supposed to have a 10:10 volleyball game, which would have put me in bed at close to midnight. But the other team forfeited, so we automatically get wins for those three games AND I got to go to bed at 10.
But the most amazing thing that happened yesterday? My friend Sara was listening to the radio on a station she doesn't usually listen to, and heard my name called. So she called her boyfriend, who works with me, who tracked my cell number down from one of the girls here. He called me in the middle of the mall, I called my dad to look up the station phone number, I called in within 30 min and said "mix 97.1, 80s, 90s, now" and I won myself $1000. Sweet!
I was definitely eyeing the boot section at Macy's (even though I hate that store and never find anything I like and said I would boycott because of the whole Field's thing), telling myself to not even try anything because I shouldn't spend that money when I got the call. I definitely bought some boots after winning.
This is awesome! That was the easiest money ever - Brandi won a couple weeks ago, the day after she entered her name on-line, and even though I very rarely listen to the station, I entered and figured I could listen a bit each day at work (you can give them a timeframe - too bad they called way after the times I told them). I won't get it for probably a month by the time someone contacts me to come in and do paperwork, and taxes get taken out and all that. But wheee! Even after taxes, that pays for all the Christmas shopping I've done and the boots and sweaters I bought yesterday. I will be able to add that check to my grad school savings account instead!
