Ta-daaa! Multiples months after signing up, I have completed my
podfic_bingo card. And, the square that finished it off? Was to record in a "Non English Language".
Obviously, the best place to look for a non-English story to podfic was in the "Latin" tags at the AO3. I mean, isn't that where you look first?
After poking around for a while in fandoms that aren't my own (there is, unsurprisingly, a surfeit of Latin-based fic in The Eagle), I came across the story
Contrary to Fact. My perseverance paid off, wonder of wonders, when I saw that
via_ostiense (who has not only recorded several great podfics IN LATIN, but also has Blanket Permission) had written a gripping post-Illiad fic dealing with the death of Patroculus, beloved of Achilles. The best part?
via_ostiense wrote the fic in English AND IN LATIN! Hooray for a practical use of seven years of Foreign Language lessons! This podfic was beta-listened for me (and scoured for pronunciation errors, because I've been told by my dropped-out-of-Seminary-School Uncle that my Latin pronunciation is too Church and not enough Conversational) by
moonlingmaid... who was referred to me by
bessyboo. Even when she isn't actually beta-ing my podfics, it seems that
bessyboo is still integral in making them listen-able ;-)
Clocking in at just under nine minutes long, Contrary to Fact can be downloaded as an mp3
over here (thanks,
paraka, for hosting me! And for hooking me up with
podfic_bingo). OR, you can stream the story by clicking below:
