So, I haven't had an X-Men First Class podfic up in a while - let's fix that!
Tonight's installment for AMP12 is
nothing like a trail of blood (to find your way back home), written by
pprfaith. It's a really intriguing alternate-ending for the movie, positing the question: what would have happened on that beach in Cuba, if Raven hadn't made it alive through the battle with Shaw's forces?
Obviously, I can't just tell you the answer to that question, because then you wouldn't have to A) read the fic, or B) listen to the podfic, but I can say this - the world that
pprfaith imagines in this story is gritty, and dark, and very nearly pre-apocalyptic (not the aftermath of an apocalyptic event, but the fraught days leading up to one, where the air rings with tension and everyone is walking on eggshells). The progression of personality for these characters is believable as well - after all, Alex and Hank and Sean were just kids when they stepped onto that beach in Cuba, and the men that
pprfaith sees them become in this world....well, it makes sense that they'd grow into those people. Not desirable, or beneficial for their mental health, but sensible that it would happen in such a way. And if Sean, Hank, and Alex end up growing up too quickly.....well, Erik and Charles grow up in ways you might not expect, either (or, if you're like me and love dark AUs, you totally expected it, and want to hug them to your chest in glee. But that's just me).
For the coverart for this podfic, I originally wanted an image of the beachhead in Cuba - but, I couldn't find a screencap that was of decent-enough quality, and also of the specific scenery I required. So instead, I went with a mostly beach-like setting on some generic shoreline. My idea was, you wouldn't be able to tell, from first glance, if it were sunrise or sunset - sunrise for the Age of Mutants? Sunset on Homo Sapiens? Sunrise for Erik's anger? Sunset on Charles' morality? It's all very full of symbolism. Plus, I really liked that the blacked-out foreground of the image makes it unclear if what you're viewing is the beach in the aftermath of battle, all churned up and bloody, or the shoreline of a pristine new setting, as X and Magneto prepare to make their mark. (Clearly, I had thoughts about this coverart.)

paraka, for hosting me!), or you can stream it by clicking below:
***This podfic is being used to fill the "revolution" square on my
au_bingo card, because that's what X and Magneto are doing in this story - sparking the Mutant Revolution, one dead human at a time.
