It's so weird, typing up this podfic entry without the header "AMP14 - Day Whatever". My laptop's still dead, so I've been stealing moments on V's MacBook Air - and recording podfics on my cell. There's definitely that not-quite-right sensation, when it comes to recording on someone else's set-up - like walking into a house you sold, and the new owners have re-arranged the furniture. But, needs must. When the urge to podfic strikes, it strikes hard, and a girl's gotta use whatever resources she's got.
Annnyway - I'm still riding the high of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the surprise Steve/Bucky 'shipper that movie made of me. So....now I seem to be rolling around in greedy_dancer's list of BP-friendly Avengers'verse authors, and I'm having a blast reading all the stories of all the pairings of all the straight-to-podfic opportunities. It's a good thing.
catch me if you can, written by mwestbell, is also a good thing. This story (by a BP Author!) is set in an alternate universe, where Bucky Barnes never fell off the side of that ill-fated train....and so, avoided the Ultimate Horror Story that his life becomes. Instead, Steve and Buck manage to wake up in the future together, and hash some stuff out.
I love this story for the happy ending - even with some internalized homophobia, a flashback to near-death-ville, and a dash of will-they-won't-they angsting, everything manages to turn up roses. It's not even roses-by-comparison-to-canon - things are straight up Flowers And Romance And Happy Puppies for Steve and Bucky, and it warms my heart to think of it.
