MY #ITPE LETTER FOR 2013

Oct 11, 2013 21:53

Dear Fellow #ITPE Podficcer,

Hey there! *waves like a happy puppy's tail*

I'm kind of lazy, so instead of writing you a brand new letter... well, you get the less-exciting-than-the-original remake letter. I know, it's not all shiny like a new one would be, but all the important and well-loved bits are still there for your perusal.

(I'd suggest taking a look at some of my delicious pages, but those haven't been updated since.... before last year's #ITPE letter was written. They're not entirely accurate anymore, but maybe a glancing overview of my ficcish tastes will be of some help for you? If you're curious, the to be podficced soonish list is full of stories by authors who have BP, or authors whose work I've podficced so often that they know me (and don't mind me frolicking in their fic). The to be podficced eventually list is full of stories that absolutely deserve to be podficced as soon as possible, but require that I send a Please Let Me Podfic You letter to the author, and so have been waitlisted. The podfics worth points list are crossover stories (for amplificathon!), and crossovers are my very favorites, so feel free to podfic all of these. The podfics in process, podfics I have made, and already posted lists are pretty self-explanatory.)

I am a polyfandom butterfly - I flit between fandoms, alighting upon their petals only long enough to sample the nectar of their most-recced fics, and then float upon the wind to my next brilliantly-colored fannish delight. Or….. something, I lost control of that metaphor somewhere around the fourth syllable. The point is, I quite enjoy a wide variety of fandoms in podfic. If anything, I'm super-easy to please because I consider podfic to be my primary fandom. (It's the only one where I regularly talk to other fans equally invested, the only one that has me salivating for my fave BNF's next New Release, and certainly the only one where I devote the majority of my own creative energies. Podfic fandom FTW \o/ )

I'm currently signed up to give and receive in the following fandoms:

-Avengers movie'verse (I'm a fan of Steve/Tony, Darcy/Clint, Natasha/Clint/Bruce, and Tony/Loki where everyone is smart and broken and badass)
-Buffy the Vampire Slayer 'verse (including Angel the Series, and the precanon books. I tend to disregard Season Eight, though...)
-Graceland (OT6, or Johnny/Mike, or Mike/Briggs, or Johnny/Paige/Mike, or any combination you like)
-Terry Pratchett's Discworld (sarcasm! wit! footnotes! DEATH!)
-Fast and the Furious (Dom/Brian, or Dom/Brian/Mia, or canon AUs, or just lovely shiny porn)
-The Hobbit (Durin Family Feels, Fili/Kili, and Dwalin/Nori make me smile)
-SPN RPF (J2)
-Bandom (Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco (version 1.0 and 2.0 - I don't have any particularly strong feelings about Dallon or Ian), The Academy Is... (and any ensuing Skippy you might stumble across), Cobra Starship)
-Disney Movies (If you wanted to make Tangled or Lilo & Stitch podfic, in particular, I would shower you with gold star stickers)
-Stargate: Atlantis ('nuff said)
-Star Trek Reboot (I'm mostly a Kirk/Bones girl, nowadays)
-Teen Wolf (started out Stiles/Derek, have recently become enamored with Stiles/Danny)
-Chronicles of Narnia (especially stories that deal with The Problem Of Susan)
-How To Train Your Dragon (d'awwwwwww, dragons!)
-anything in the X-Men movie'verse (X-Men First Class is my most recent obsession, but I've been a Rogue/Wolverine girl since X-Men 1)

It'd be pretty easy to glean an inkling of what I like in my stories by looking at my own podfic catalogue, or the list of stories I think should be podficced, but to save you the trouble I thought I'd make a list. (This list is not limited to my fellow #ITPE Podficcer; anyone and everyone who wants to make me a podfic, there's no way I'd ever say, "no thank you." *whistles nonchalantly in the corner*)

Things That Make Me Love This Story
-crossovers
-humor
-happy endings
-twisty or creepy endings
-kidfic (of both the all-the-characters-ARE-kids and the-characters-HAVE-kids varieties)
-romance
-mystery
-dark and twisted AUs where are the good guys are serial killers or psychopaths or career criminals but you root for them anyway
-Stargate Atlantis AUs
-crossovers
-not!fic
-Buffy the Vampire Slayer AUs
-snappy banter
-found families
-badassery
-competence
-secrets
-crossovers
-vampires
-AUs where Character X never died, and then you get to see how canon gets warped by their presence
-situationally-induced cuddling
-fluff
-crossdressing
-bondage
-X-Men AUs
-High-School-Into-College AUs
-adventure
-epistolary stories
-stories where Character X is a demon/Special Kid/uses their Gift for devious or scandalous affairs
-glitter
-crossovers
-music
-sound effects
-weddings
-Accidental Boyfriends
-Pretend Dating
-scheming
-sarcasm
-stories that make you think
-stories that leave you thinking and pondering and contemplating, even after it's all over
-threesomes, foursomes, moresomes (where the relationship is a Thing, not just an orgy of Guest Starring Limbs)
-werewolves
-crossovers
-high school/college AUs

Things I Do Not Dig
-unwarned-for character death (I don't mind if you have to kill off a character in the course of your storytelling duty, but warn me ahead of time, please)
-cross-generational incest (I'm alright with incest - see all the Wincest I've recorded - but parent/child is not my thing)
-angels having any kind of sex (it throws up all kinds of Catholic Guilt flags. Interestingly, however, I have no problems at all with demons having sex)
-I can't remember the exact term, but stories where altar-boy!X (or demon!X, or doubting-his-faith!X) seduces Father Y (let's just leave the clergy out of this altogether, okay? Let's make it easy for everyone, and skip over Catholic School AUs for now, too)
-angst (I'm in this for the escapism; unless under very specific circumstances, if I wanted to be depressed I'd take my headphones off and pay attention to crappy reality)
-bestiality (of the there-is-actually-an-animal-involved-with-my-genitalia kind, not the sometimes-I'm-a-werewolf kind)

-stories that lack internal consistency (I'll spend the whole time picking apart the logic holes, instead of appreciating your performance)
-First Person POVs (though oddly enough, Second Person POVs really work for me...)
-people eating people (don't care if they're alive or dead, I frown upon cannibalism)

Other than that, go for it! I'm going to flail over you no matter what (this is meant to be reassuring in the face of any potential podblock or performance anxiety; I'm not trying to imply that I won't appreciate your efforts), and I'll probably end up stalking your livejournal or dreamwidth account after we have our gift exchange (if I haven't done so already.... I'm kind of a stalkery person, some days). I'm thrilled that you managed to make your way through all my ramblings, and I can't wait to see what you come up with! I'm sure that if it's a fic that you love, your enthusiasm will sell it to me. If you've still got any questions or concerns about whether or not I'll enjoy the fic (or fics... I wouldn't say no to more than one...), feel free to send your questions to bessyboo, or analise010. Between the two of them, there's been over a billion hours of my-podfic-listening - they know what I like ;-) OR better yet, leave me an anonymous comment on this entry! I'm not tech-savvy enough to trace you from your IP address. Pinky swear.

Seriously, since it's highly doubtful that Santa will bring me a new laptop for Christmas (he certainly didn't LAST year, and I wrote it in bold on my list), you're going to be my New Favorite Person this holiday season. Good luck and good fortune in your podficcing endeavors!

Sincerely,
Marisa ( reena_jenkins)

i blame everything on twitter, other people's podfic, outside source of awesome
