Welcome to Amplificathon 2013, everyone!
If you're new here, or just dropping by, or weren't here last year,
here's an overview of the Amplificathon challenge. If you're not so new, then you probably remember that while I'm a mild-mannered and friendly podfic enthusiast nine times out of ten, Amplificathon (hereafter referred to as AMP13) tends to bring out my more competitive, hair-pulling, face-clawing side, as I strive for ALL THE POINTS. Which, fellow podfic enthusiasts, is great news for you! My personal goal for this year's competition is a minimum of one crossover podfic per day. Any other podfics posted per day, be they crossover or single fandom, is gravy from here on out. 47 crossover podfics is reasonable, right?
Right?
Shut up, of course it is.
And to (belatedly) kick off AMP13, I'm going to bring out a (belated) birthday present. Sorry,
the24thkey - I know you reminded me weeks ago to post your birthday gift, and actually it's been sitting on my harddrive in various stages of very-nearly-completed since mid-December of last year.... Anyway. Here it is, now!
Buffy's Guide to Semi-Successful Poly Relationships (In the Past), written by
pprfaith, is the sequel to
Buffy's Guide to Surviving in 1962: it's the further Adventures of Buffy Summers, as she's trapped in the past, wrestling with the consequences of all her possible futures, and then has to deal with the combined stubbornness of Erki Lensherr and Charles Xavier on top of all that. It's got the same snappy wit as the prequel, and all the emotional impact that a good story brings to bear. As Intro/Outro music for this podfic, I used Ray Charles' "I Can't Stop Loving You" - since this is the number two story in the series, and that song was number two on the Billboard charts for 1962, it seemed appropriate.

And, since I'm waaaaaaay behind on the rest of AMP13 - it has been over a week since the challenge began - here are some podfics for all the other days I've missed out on so far.
i will rule for you, written by
sospes, is a The Hobbit story set post-Battle of Five Armies, with all the canon-compliant character death that comes along with that setting. And yet, despite all the ways that Tolkien stabs you in the heart by killing off all your favorites, this story is so TRIUMPHANT: Dis returns to Erebor with the rest of the Lonely Mountain's refugees, and takes up the throne her brother died to reclaim. Dis rebuilds Erebor, and her every move is an honor and a testament to her fallen family. I absolutely love this story, and I hope you will, too. Intro/Outro music for this podfic comes from the album 'Riverdance On Broadway', composed by Bill Whelan: "I Will Set You Free" echoes the emotional arc of this story, from the mourning of Erebor's lost people to Dis' triumph and strength of her return home.

And, since I need a crossover podfic, may I present a bitty little podficlet of silliness and cractasticness:
sparkle sparkle this, a Twilight series-Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover written by
tigriswolf. Spike and Edward meet, Spike is displeased. The End.

Erratically In All Directions, written by
tieleen, is literary crossover of immense hilarity: Terry Pratchett's Discworld meets Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Captain Carrot is his usually-imperturbable self, even in the face of Mr. Vimes meeting "the consulting detective from Quirm." Poor Captain Carrot......

non carborundum, written by
sospes, is a pre-canon The Hobbit fic, featuring the pairing Fili/Kili (if sibling incest isn't your thing, you might want to skip this one). This podfic was recorded for
analise010 (though I hope everyone else will enjoy it, as well!) as a thank you for encouraging and enabling my fondness for The Secret Language of Beards in Hobbit-fic. And, the emotional impact of that final beard-scene? What a way to punch me in the feels, like whoa.

Just one podfic for this belated post:
I pray you, kind one, take pity on father and son, is a White Collar-Norse Mythology-Avengers Movie'verse crossover fic, written by
tigriswolf. Ugh, I love this story - it's so CLEVER, and twisty in all the best ways, and the melding of Norse myth with White Collar characterization is a beautiful thing to behold. Plus, the way Neal's conviction and dedication to family is shown - the way it's such an integral part of his very being, and how it bleeds through into his every action - really resonated with me in a very visceral way. The Intro/Outro music for this podfic is "One Thing", as performed by Finger Eleven - I loved the driving beat of this song, and how the dedication of the lyrics echoed Neal's thousand-year ambition.

one angel in another's hell, written by
tigriswolf, is an Avengers movie'verse/Supernatural crossover fic, with a darker-than-ususal twist: the story starts off as everyone dies. But then there's magic, and deal-making, and intriguing character backstory for Clint, and unrequited love, and everything is beautiful (though not happily-ever-after). Have I mentioned lately, how very thrilled I am to be podficcing all of tigriswolf's Blanket Permission stories? Because, seriously, SO VERY THRILLED.

late nights and early sunsets (vampires will never hurt you but zombies will eat your brains), written by
akamine_chan, is a My Chemical Romance zombie apocalypse story. I know, MCR is a sore spot for pretty much every bandom friend right now....but, hey, zombies!
akamine_chan consistently writes lovely things, and there's this one scene she describes - the weather in a parking lot - where I could just about feel the heat pressing in on me as I read.

Half A Dozen Laconic Bastards, written by
sam_storyteller (aka copperbadge, aka HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS AUTHOR HAD BLANKET PERMISSION TO PODFIC?!) is a massive crossover of hair-raising proportions: Stargate Atlantis meets White Collar meets Eureka meets Teen Titans meets Torchwood. Thanks to the outstanding properties of John Sheppard's DNA - both the ATA gene, and whatever gene it is that's responsible for his hair - there's a whole new Gate Team ready to wreak havoc on the Pegasus Galaxy.

we are not funeral homes, written by
pprfaith, is an absolutely gorgeous story set in the Avengers movie'verse, based off the premise: what if Tony and Pepper were the original Loki and Sigyn? There's not quite enough Norse Mythology to make this a crossover (it's really more of a fusion), but the influence is visible and visceral - after all, in the words of
cantarina1, "Tony and Loki are both sides of the same coin." For this podfic's Intro/Outro music, I used "Our Swords", as performed by Band of Horses. There's a sense of futility in those lyrics, which pairs well with how long Tony's been trying and trying to remake the world to his satisfaction.

And for today's (belated) crossover, we've got another story by
tigriswolf:
I walk a mile in bloody shoes is a DOOM-Star Trek Reboot crossover fic, that supposes John 'Reaper' Grimm and Leonard 'Bones' McCoy are one and the same. I have a huge soft spot for stories that show how Reaper could have become Bones, and
tigriswolf does exactly that, most excellently. It's particularly moving, to see how his life as Bones echoes his life as Reaper - and to see how Reaper's reactions might have influenced Bones' actions during the incident with the Narada.

If I'm Ugly Then So Are You, written by
littlblackghost, is a The Hobbit story set pre-canon. An examination of how Kili might actually be the ugly duckling of the House of Durin, this story is surprisingly sweet and heartfelt. Thorin is not just a leader in this one, but an Uncle to his two rambunctious nephews, and his compassion for Kili's plight is lovely to behold. Hopefully, I've managed to convey the extent of this story's adorability for you in the podfic.

cats and canaries, written by
tigriswolf, is another kidfic - this time, a crossover between Sabertooth (from X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Ben Young (from Dark Angel). If ever you didn't want someone to find a child shivering and alone in the woods, Sabertooth is probably the very last person on that list. But then again, Ben's already pretty dangerous himself....and Victor's been looking for a new hunting partner, since Jimmy left....

The Skin Beneath The Skin, written by
jibrailis (Hooray for Blanket Permission to podfic! Authors, you should really consider writing up some kind of Blanket Permission Statement for your works, because they make me Very Happy to see....and much more likely to record your fic.....), is a story set post-movie for Disney's The Little Mermaid. Ariel is adjusting to life on land, and though she still loves Erik, it's not at all what she was expecting. There's an incredible sense of yearning in this story, and Ariel's longing is palpable. This podfic owes a great deal of thanks to
heard_the_owl - she edited the raw file, because every time I went to listen I was struck with sympathetic sniffles all over again.

An Alternate Solution to the Problem of Susan, written by
cofax7, is a bitty crossover podficlet between Stargate: SG1 and the Chronicles of Narnia. If you recall, we learn in C. S. Lewis' The Final Battle that Susan is "no longer a friend of Narnia". This story puts forth one possible reason why that might be the case. (....and I, for one, would much prefer this explanation to the thought that Susan didn't BELIEVE in Narnia, anymore.)

And finally, the podfic for TODAY:
Escalation, written by
gala_apples, is a Glee-Bandom crossover, featuring members of My Chemical Romance and The Used. I don't know a whole lot about Glee, so my characterizations might be a bit shaky, but reading this fic CRACKED ME UP. Imagine it: unshowered, smelly, greasy, Projekt Rev-era Gerard Way....as a student at McKinley, and a member of Glee Club. Chaos ensues. You know you want to listen.

And, that's it! That's the last ten days' worth of podfics for AMP13, all caught up. I have a feeling that, despite my best intentions, I'm going to end up making a lot of catch-up posts as Amplificathon progresses... I might need somebody to poke me, remind me to post things after all. Anyway, I hope that there's something in this whole mess that's to your liking. Happy listening, everyone!
