Pod Aware Day Four: Acting

Nov 15, 2012 13:53

Podfic is more than just saying words aloud-it's performing them, expressing one reader's experience of the story and sharing it with the world. To find out more information on acting in podfic, check out Pod Aware on DW, LJ or Tumblr.

Y'know, I don't think of myself as "acting" when I podfic. Yes, I mean, it is a PERFORMANCE, because I'm putting in effort and hoping that someone will appreciate my interpretation of the text, but I don't consider myself an actor. My only theater experience is a chorus role in Damn Yankees in ninth grade - I can dance a mediocre cha-cha, but not much else. Instead, I'm going to share a podfic today that's about performance and poetry - beat poetry, to be precise!

If I was you, I would go on the road and howl, too. is a Bandom AU featuring the members of Fall Out Boy as beat poets, written by lalejandra. It's an excellent period-piece, even if I wasn't all that familiar with the Beat Era before recording this podfic. And for added ambiance, I've even included excerpts from Allen Ginsberg's Howl (his reading at the Poetry Center, San Fransisco State University, on October 25, 1956; courtesy of the PennSound Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing) in this podfic. Beta-listened by lalejandra for things like flow and proper pronunciation, I'm using this podfic to fill the "Poetry" square of my podfic_bingo card.

Running just over six minutes long, you can download this podfic as an mp3 right over here (thank you, paraka, for hosting me!) OR you can steam the story by clicking above.
