I was also thinking shotgun because FCA is having a guys retreat soon they're calling "10 things guys should know". One of the included 10 is learning to clean and shoot a gun. Of the others I know that have firearms it's just pistols. I thought it might bring variety

Well... Glocks have a light trigger and are basically single action. That's why cops have issue with them sometime. It requires that they be super careful holstering and when they draw.
I'm not completely opposed per say... like a 1911, it's absolutely needed. I just hate when it's DA/SA and a manual safety. It's another step that you'd have to train for. I don't give a damn about keeping my gun around loaded when it's decocked for DA. Nothing will move that 10 pound trigger unless I want it to.
I'd probably put it for me in order of preference: DA/SA > LEM/DAK/or NY glock trigger all are heavier consistent pulls > SA with manual safety > SA with manual safety > all else

The BD version doesn't have the manual safety. I refuse to buy a gun with a manual safety. 10+1 capacity is good. DA/SA.
Cons are it's not super small and rather wide.
