So Thursday was AWESOME! I had so much fun. It's been such a long time since I had the feeling that it was the best day of my life :-) So Katie's uncle Drew picked me up at around 4:30ish. He's really cool...I wish my uncles were as cool as him. lol So we got to the Royal Oak Music Theatre around 6:30ish and the line was all the way around the building. But then we realized that it was the line to buy tickets in...and we already got ours :-) The concert ended up being sold out. Sucks for all those stupid people who waited the last day to buy tickets.
Then we went inside. That place is so low on security. They scanned our tickets and then let us inside. No metal detectors, no searching of the person, no looking inside purses or backpacks. Definitely not like anywhere in Detroit. So we got in and heard the last four songs from Against All Authority. They were pretty sweet. It's awesome to hear an old school punk band every now and again...and they are for sure like that.
After AAA was done, we had to wait like a half hour for them to set up for Streetlight Manifesto. But damn, it was worth it. Streetlight was AMAZING! They're now one of my favorite bands! I love them! They've got an awesome horn section...I LOVE them! It's so much fun singing along to their songs. Ah! It was soooo AWESOME! "Fuck it! Thank you! I love you all!"
Another 30 minutes went by and then Reel Big Fish came on. Oh my gosh, they're like gods. I knew every song by heart, so that made it even more great. They even started playing Enter Sandman by Metallica...which is my favorite Metallica song. lol Yep, they are for sure the Masters of All Musical Styles ;-) And they are like a musical salad bar. Some definitely great inside jokes that only people who went to the show will know what I'm talking about! I love Reel Big Fish. We tried going into the pit...but damn, they're are some huge people down there! I think we'll have to wait til we get just a little bit taller. lol And I am going to see them everytime they come back to Detroit.
Another 30 minutes and out comes Less Than Jake! They had a show in the theme of The Price Is Right. It was great! They were all introduced to the stage and then Chris (The lead singer) was Bob Boner. Haha They played a couple songs and then the game started. They brought up 3 people who had already bought some merchandise. So Pat comes up, and she's like 60 years old lol Then this wasted guy comes up...I don't remember his name, so lets call him Josh. He was like 25 maybe. And then this maybe 15 year old, Nate, comes up. He has that stupid hair that everyone has...the long, nasty, gross blonde hair. So Chris was like "Does anyone have any scissors?! If you do, bring them up here! This isn't some hippie show! You look like fucking Ted Nugent!" I was laughing my ass off! So they were all asked a question, and whoever got it right got to play Plinko! The question was 'How many tires are on Less Than Jake's tour bus.' Pat guessed 10 and got it right. So she drops the chip down the Plinko board and it falls off! lol She did it again and it landed on the Boarders and Boundaries album...which is one of my favorite ones! They play about 6 or 7 songs from the album and it was time to spin the wheel :-) The question was 'How many strings will Rodger break on his bass guitar on this tour?' And Nate got it right since he was the closest. The correct answer was 167 lol So he spun the wheel and it landed on Losing Streak...another favorite album of mine! Woohoo! So they played another 6 or 7 songs from that album and then it was time for the Showcase Showdown! But Pat left!!! Chris is like "Everyone Boo Pat!" We did that a few times...it was great lol So Nate pretty much automatically won. I think the question was 'How many bottles of Vodka did Buddy drink last on the last tour?' That wasn't the question, but you get the gist. lol The answer was 4 I think. So Nate got a cereal box that looked like Lucky Charms but had Less Than Jake on it :-) Then they played a few more songs and ended with my favorite, Look What Happened :-D Then for the encore they played The Rest of My Life, Plastic Cup Politics, and then Gainsville Rock City. Loved it!!!
So this was the Best, I repeat, the BEST concert I've ever been to. I want to go every night. Maybe one year I'll follow them on one of their tours and actually see them every night. That would be sweet. lol I'm so happy I went...it was an AWESOME night!
