Wow. I really love this. I don't know the movie you're basing it on at all, but it's totally a believable thing to happen on Atlantis, and your thoughtful and quiet characterization of Chuck is compelling. This is one I'll be coming back to more than once.

thank you! the movie is excellent, though the female roles are very dated.
you're very kind, and i'm happy you enjoyed it.

Aw, this is great! You really manage to develop two extremely minor characters enough to like and care about them. Unlike Caldwell, that cad. *g*

thanks! by the end there, i sort of wanted to buy chuck a cup of coffee and hang out with him, maybe let him teach me to play cards.

poor caldwell. someone had to be the bad guy. at least he's not cheating on a wife as well. though i did realize last night that his dalliance with doctor lindsay almost certainly includes the time he was goa'uld. and that's pretty creepy.

:)

Ahhh. This was wonderfull. These sort of things either work or they don't. This fic worked, a LOT. I really sunk into it and let myself get to know the characters.

And it might be a good reasoning that she tried to kill herself. There is no telling how deviously cruel a Goa'uld Caldwell could have been. Plus any fic that uses the Surly Pectoral God as anything other than window dressing is good in my book.

ooh, i like that, it makes sense. a hidden relationship is prone to power issues and inequality in the first place. i figured i didn't have to figure out what they were fighting about (other than the obvious bit about secrecy), because chuck is never ever going to ask. he honestly doesn't think it's his business and doesn't want to know.
in his place, i would totally ask.

thank you for reading!

Awww, this was really cute. At the very beginning I was confused and thought your female lead was Lindsey Novak, not Dr. Lindsey, but I quickly realized who you really meant. Thanks for the link to her wikipedia entry in your story notes-- I didn't realize she'd been in an SG1 episode (I think that actress was also in the S9 premiere, but maybe not as the same character ( ... )

thank you!

i was worried about the potential dr lindsay/lindsey novak confusion - i don't think it would have been a problem at all if i hadn't listed the pairing in the header, but not listing the pairing seemed like poor etiquette. though i left out the lindsay/caldwell purposefully, mostly because there's just no way in hell i would read something labelled that way. i didn't manage to watch the sg1 episode that she was in, but the transcript made her seem a lot less flaky than she is in coup, so i sort of ran with that ( ... )

Oh, this is great! (I want to say "charming" but I'm afraid it might sound twee. But it is, totally.)

I love Chuck being so fleshed out and normal, and the magic bit, and how McKay is so the crappy jumper pilot Cadman knows. Isn't he?

I've never seen The Apartment but the story really works. Thank you!

thank you - i was actually aiming for charming. i like think i'm hardcore but i'm totally twee.

McKay is very much the jumper pilot. and she really wants to make him try to do a balcony-to-balcony thing just to torment him. and so she can make busdriver jokes at his expense.

i'm so glad it works!

Great job. You managed to find just the right characters to make it work. I really like the way you make the whole scenario so believable - no stretching of credibility at all to make it fit.
