Achaosofkittens filled the fridge for me this weekend. So tonight, I took over the kitchen like a slow-motion steamroller. This evening's repast was bacon-wrapped turkey breast, scalloped potatoes, stuffing (out of a box), and fresh tomatoes. I've become more conscious of pasture maintenance these last few years, particularly of poisonous plants, to the point of getting a battery-powered weed whacker. The weed whacker and the mower have been deployed specifically to combat Perilla Mint. If I recall correctly, pawpaws are the biggest fruits that are native to the new world. They have not been improved all that much with any consideration for mass market. The skin is very thin and easily torn or bruised. The seeds are huge and do not come out easily. The flesh of the ripe fruit is slightly mushy and has the texture of a ripe banana ( Read more... )

The regular rain has done great things for parts of the garden and most of our wild and feral plants. The wine berries are everywhere, and the blackberries are trying to catch up.
