I am now almost a week out from my LASIK surgery, and am loving the results.  Being able to see is just! so! exciting!

I have worn glasses everywhere but bed or underwater since I was eight years old - I showered in them, wore them to swim in the ocean, did Aikido rolls with them on, and took them off only for bed or activities which involved ( Read more... )

LASIK:

I decided to get LASIK done this summer, after my glasses broke and I realized exactly how vulnerable my very terrible eyesight makes me. I started considering eye surgery when I was still in high school, but wanted to wait until my vision stabilized and we knew more about the long term effects of the procedure. LASIK this morning.  I have soft contacts in to cover the flaps and enough eyedrops to choke an elephany, yet, despite that, my vision is still better.

I am hoping that by the time I wake up tomorrow it will be near-perfect.

Ugh.

Went to the eye doctor this morning, and they dilated my eyes. The drops *hurt* and  I still cant really see up close. This wouldnt be a big deal except pretty much everything in my life involves working at close range: reading, typing, etc. I cant even knit! Oh, and I had to teach this afternoon. Not being able to see is terrifying.

When I took the model mugging self-defense class in Fairbanks (then helped teach two more), the first thing they did was make me take off my glasses and respond to the attacks blind.  It wasn’t bad once you were in close and it was clear that someone was trying to hurt you, since vision isn’t really key at that ( Read more... )
