contemplating if APW is worth it...

Last year was chaotic but still fun. This year has been fun so far, though the conditions have been a bitch.

Day 1 in the rain, totally worth it. Yes the Fleet Foxes, Ra Ra Riot, Vampire Weekend, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were amazing, but really, it was all about Jay-Z! Feet were soggy, clothes were wet, weather got cold, mud got disgusting, but he was that fucking awesome!

Day 2 in the sun, and the mud, also worth it. The mud was worse because parts of the park were puddly mud while other parts were nearly clay-pits, but the White Rabbits, Cool Kids, Kool Keith, Arctic Monkeys, Gogol, and Crystal Castles were great. Even the overpriced lemonade slushies were giant cups of sugary yumminess.

Today, all I really care for is La Roux, Lykke Li, and The Black Keys (in other words, I only need to be there 6:20-9:10). I was planning to stay for Coldplay, but only because I'd already be there. For some reason APW feels Sunday isn't worth it because both this and last year they saved most of the boring bands for Sunday. This sucks on a day like today because it leads to a debate over if its worth it or not.

Why it's worth it:
(1) The Black Keys
(2) La Roux
(3) Lykke Li
(4) Already paid for ticket

Why it may not be worth it:
(1) It's rained all day, will have a break for a while, but starts back up at 6ish and thunder storms are possible for later so they could cancel anyway later on. (according to weather.com)
(2) The rain means the mud will only be harder to slog through. (according to logic)
(3) It was delayed 2 hours, though the doors are still not open so it's really been at least a 3hr delay. There is now a scheduled 2hr lag meaning bands are not starting up til 4 (My shows now 8:20-11:10?) Additionally, some people are leaving. (according to texts from L, my intrepid source on the inside [of the ferry station] and long-suffering PT Walkley fan)
(4) Jersey noise ordinances say it has to be over by 11:30 so they'll either have to start cutting bands, shortening sets, or paying giant fines. They will likely cut bands or shorten sets to save money on the fines since a 2 hour delay means it won't end til 1:30. (according to business logic and what I know about NJ from growing up there [big-up NJ!])

Even worse, they already fucked 3-day pass holders on Friday when they said that b/c of the rain Friday ticket holders could come one extra day for free but nobody else would be getting refunds/discounts even though we paid to be there and stuck it out Friday too. I wouldn't mind so much but it basically means that they paid $90 for two days while we paid $225 for 3 since it was a good deal to go to three rather than just 2 at the time. Now, however, it means we paid an extra $135 for 3 when we could have just paid the $90 and gone to two since most of the good bands played yesterday and Friday anyway.

I mean, the bands I've seen have totally been worth it. But all the associated BS is fucking shit up.

I'll post photos tomorrow.
