Austin

Thought I better do a write up before todays events take over.
Everything worked out really well. Gor hotel parking free at Heathrow the night before which was a saving of £12! Flight out was great. Had a row to myself so plenty of room. Watched quite a few films - TED, Dark Shadows, MIB3 and then PotC4 as I fancied some more Johnny Depp! Change over in Houston was easy enough and we arrived in Austin slightly early. Keven from Selec met me in the arrivals hall and took me straigh to the circuit. Apparently he'd managed to get on to the track on several days that week but this was Wednesday night so it was getting a bit close to the event. Nevertheless we gace security a bit of a tail and the next thing I know I'm driving around the GP circuit! Before any of the drivers! The difficulty was when we got to the start finish straight as they were paining the grid markings. Well the only way to go was through the pitlane - so we did!!! Kevin was bricking it but no-one batted an eyelid. The mechanics were just busy getting on with their work.
Shared a room with Val. Turns out I did know her as she was on the same Spa trip as me last year. There was a nice little group of us staying at the same motel and we all hung out together in the evenings. No pitwalk on the Thursday so we went in to Austin. Ended up going to a few bars - there was a fair bit of drinking on this trip. On the Friday Me and Val managed to get seats in turn 4 which was nice to give a different view. The rest of the weekend I was down by turn 11 where the rest of the group were in turn 15. 11 was pretty good actually and for FP3 I stood right on the hairpin in the GA area.
I guess I get spoiled by Monaco. Austin was like most circuits where you don't get near the drivers. Saw a few at the autograph sessions but no Michael. I didn't mind too much as I wouldn't have been able to get near him anyway and that would have been worse than not seeing him at all. Race was good (well apart from Michael) and I actually cheered when Lewis overtook Seb - In our group we'd all decided that we wanted Alonso to win the WDC so I wasn;t the only one, despite none of us liking Lewis.
Would definitely reccommend Austin for a good race though they need to sort out the queues for food and merchandise for next year. Hard to believe that it was my last time seeing Michael race live. Suprisingly I didn't get any Post GP depression. That will probably come after todays race.
