Yet another movie that doesn't need to be remade is going to be remade.

Okay, look...The Crow isn't a great movie. It's not even that good. But it's got its own place in history, and also OMGWTFBRANDONLEE. The only time that movie could be made and work was 1994. The world is no longer that world. STOP IT, HOLLYWOOD ( Read more... )

wtf, comics, geekery

Gah, agreed. It was a period piece - great entertainment for 1994. Remaking it (with more CGI, you bet your life) just defeats the object of the exercise.

Where is Ernie Hudson these days? He was a bit awesome in that movie.

Ernie Hudson was on HBO's OZ for its entire run. He played the Warden.

And he was awesome at it. Of course, that show was made of pure awesomeness, any way you look at it.

I know! I just finished re watching all six seasons again (I saw every one on its original air date, except for one)

I really miss that show. It was pretty fucking brilliant. Also, the O'Reilly brothers were made of hotness.

Yeah, that's one of the few shows I have complete on DVD. I really wish there had been more - although without Simmons and Meloni, I'm not sure where they would have gone with Tobias' story line.

But yeah, that show was one of the best on TV. And it amazes me every time I see what the cast has gone on to do - it's rare I don't watch a show or a movie without at least one actor from Oz showing up.

And lots of those guys were straight out of school! It was a great starting point. It was so weird for me to see them as other characters at first. Simmons as the psychiatrist on L&O? I was like "WTF is a big Nazi doing as a psychiatrist! That's not right ( ... )

What's even more amusing is that Meloni & Winters were playing both parts simultaneously. I don't know I could have switched between such polar characters and still have made both as good as they did (I'm a HUGE SVU fan as well.)

Oh, I'm sure that they'd have found SOMETHING to do with Tobias, but it wouldn't have been the same - that arc was really the heart of the series, as far as I'm concerned. After all, it started with his incarceration, and ended with the death of his main rival and lover.

I lucked out on the DVD's - I think I picked up the first 5 seasons a few years back (before the 6th season was released) on Ebay for something reasonable - $120 or so. I'd recommend seeing what deals you can find there - it's a great resource for picking up boxed sets of TV shows for a fair bit less than retail. I just picked up the complete run of Homicide: Life on the Streets for $150, which is about the price of 2 seasons of that show.
