Hot Damn. It's been a while since I've updated the ol blogaroo. I'm not sure where I should even start. . . a lot of activity went on this weekend and I think that I'm still exhausted from it all. Or maybe I'm just tired because it is oppressively hot outside. I love the summer, don't get me wrong, but I don't see why it's necessary for the temp to be over 90, that's just excessive. All right, weekend recap:
Friday. This day started off with Jiliana calling me way earlier than I was ready for anyone to call me (I had a ton of trouble sleeping the night before) but I persevered and got my ass in gear and ready to go to lunch with her, Jon and, oh christ. . . a friend of hers. This friend was a broad, she was pretty funny. . . I know she has a name. . . come on memory banks, don't fail me now. Alright, so I don't remember her name, I suck. We went to Wishbone where Jose was our waiter, as always. I fucking love that place. The food was really good, I had Jambalaya, and it was great to see my ol' pal. After lunch I came home and was completely stir crazy, I had to go do something. I had plans to go meet up with Jil and her seemingly endless posse later on that night but it was about 3 and I was bored with a capital B. So I gave CJ a call and asked him if he wanted to go golfing, and lo and behold he did. So I went and caught the Metra out to Brookfield. I barely made the train because the CTA is such a clusterfuck these days and I guess I just have to begin assuming that no matter how far I am traveling that it will take an hour, but I did make the train. We went golfing out at Flagg Creek which is somewhere near where he lives. When I'm in the suburbs I have no idea where I am, they all look exactly the same to me. The course was pretty nice although the experience was pretty darn irritating. We were stuck behind this group of two fathers and their shithead kids who were god awful at golf. I understand that they were younger and not very good and I respect that. But they were playing about 6 balls each per hole and their dad's were taking forever teaching them things and just moving so painfully slow that we were backed up three groups behind them. It was twilight golf so you want to move quickly and get as many holes in as possible. We opted to get a cart because we thought we might be able to get 18 in before it was dark, instead we barely made 9 and the last hole was so dark we gave up. It was a lot of fun but annoying at the same time. CJ ended up giving me a ride back to the city because I didn't want to wait around until 11:00 for the next train (we barely missed the 9 o clock train) so in gratitude I bought his round of golf at the champ the next day. Once I made it back home I took a whore's bath, packed a flask, and started on my way to go see Jiliana way out at the Hyatt O'hare. Despite a few mishaps (taking forever to get there, drinking all of my flask before reaching the bar therefore ending my plan of drinking on the cheap, trying to take a shortcut that was disastrous) I got there. It was really nice to see some of Jil's friends with whom I had been previously acquainted and I met some new ones as well. It was a pretty good time despite the fact that the bartender moved slower than a sloth. I was a little uncomfortable so I boozed a wee bit harder than I intended to, but it was an interesting and fun evening. I ended up taking an overpriced cab home but to me it was worth it since it would have taken roughly 4.6 days to get home using the CTA, and then I went to sleep. . .
For a little over 3 hours. Then it was time to get up in order to go golfing with the boys once again. I got up early enough to go to Einstein's and grab a bagel and a giant bottle of water, I'm pretty sure that I would have died sometime out on the course if I hadn't done this. Steinbach, CJ, Luke, Mike and I went to Joe Louis "The Champ" way down on the southside. I love that course, it's definitely interesting. I shot ok. I've been shooting pretty well this year so my expectations have risen on my play. I would have been really happy with this round last year, but I was a bit disappointed. I had a lot of makeable shots that I just fucked up for no good reason. The heat really got me towards the end of the day as well, I was dragging like a mofo. We finished up and Luke was nice enough to give me a ride home, which took forever. I didn't get home until a long time after when I intended to and therefore couldn't make good on some things I said that I'd do the night before and I feel like an ass because of it. It seems like I always stretch myself too thin and commit to too many things that I'm just not able to live up to. Almost immediately after getting home a group of friends showed up just to say hi. So we drank some Stroh's, shot the shit, and I thought about how nice that nap I was planning on taking would have been. Still, it's always good to see people you haven't seen in a while. Once they left I watched the Sox finish off the Giants, took a quick shower and hit the train to go to Mario's birthday/LD's bachelor party. We had dinner at this metal bar/burger joint called Kumas Corner. It's around 3000 west Belmont. I highly recommend checking it out. All of the burgers are named after metal bands (the one named after Slayer even comes with "anger" on it!) and they are all pretty excellent. I had the Clutch burger, it was tasty. They play metal music the whole time and have a very good selection of beer. After finishing up there we moved on to the Long Room, one of my favorite Chicago Bars. It was there that a man made his triumphant return to Chicago. . . BILLY O! Yay! It was so fucking good to see Sully, it's been about a year and a half I think, maybe a little bit longer. He's in town for a few weeks so I hope to raise it with him some more. We are going to try and hit a baseball game in a few weeks so if anyone is interested in tagging along let me know, it should be fun. It was a great night and I had a hell of a time. One would think the fun would never end. . .
but it did. And I spent all day Sunday paying for it. I was insanely tired and hung over, but mostly just really damn tired. I kept napping all day and feeling like shit. It was quite the price to pay for all of my fun, but I survived. All right, this is all for now, I'm gonna go sit under the fan without my shirt on and think cooling thoughts now. . .
