Is anyone else amazed by what a rough year it's been so far? The Red Sox have had a hellish schedule beginning the year in Japan, and it feels like they've rarely been home since. They've played 57% of their games on the road where they're 6 games under .500. In fact, 18 of their games in May were on the road.
And the injuries are starting to pile up. Schilling was hurt long before the season began, then Beckett was hurt in Spring Training, now Matsuzaka and Buchholz are hurt as well. That's 4/5ths of the rotation! Plus Okajima has struggled with injuries.
As for the offense, Mike Lowell's missed significant time. David Ortiz was playing hurt earlier in the season and now he'll be out for significant time. Kevin Youkilis, Sean Casey, Alex Cora, J.D. Drew, Coco Crisp and Brandon Moss have also missed time due to injuries.
Considering all this, I'm pretty happy we're only a game and a half out of first.
