MOD POST
Many of you probably haven't heard yet....but the Boston Red Sox won the World Series this year. Now you might think that the only people who could possibly find a negative to that are the assbags who work at WEEI. But unfortunately the mods here have noticed another negative. The Sox winning has meant two things to this community.
- People are jumping on the bandwagon at an incredible pace and we're getting waves and waves of membership requests every day. We actually gave brief discussion to denying all new members for the next month or so just for fun at the expense of the bandwagoners. But, all kidding aside, many new members aren't bothering to read the userinfo. Sure, it's wordy, but it's there for a reason.
- People are excited and are very eager to share their excitement. That's to be expected. We were going to let people run amuck for another week or so, but in the interest of saving people's friends lists and to make sure Red Sox nation looks at least a little serious, we're going to have to crack down a little bit.
The rules here can basically be boiled down to a few
- During the games there is an official game post which is used for any comments about the game going on. Anything from "WOOHOO, home run!" to an indepth preview and analysis of the game go there. That obviously won't be an issue for the next few months, but often times when a big event happens an "official post" will pop up for that event. Things such as "official rolling rally" posts or "official we just landed a big free agent" posts are made so that 7000 people don't make a post about the same topic.
- Every time you go to post, check the community first. If someone already posted about what you were going to say, don't say it. Repeat posts get deleted.
- Don't post pointless crap. There are nearly 2000 members here so picture it this way - You're in high school up on stage in the auditorium and every person of your school is sitting there watching you, waiting to hear what you have to say. Would you go up there and waste everyone's time with a one line throw-away comment or a picture of you wearing your brand new pink Varitek jersey? Nah, probably not, so don't post it here, use your personal journal for that. Use your best judgement when deciding if something is worth posting. And it's like those drunk driving commercials....if you think you might be too drunk to drive, then you are too drunk. In other words if you're not sure if something is worth posting...it's probably not.
The mods have stopped this practice, but we'll get back into it. Every time we delete a post we'll give the reason over at
redsoxmods. So if your post was deleted and you don't know why, stop by there. Do not take it to our personal journals. That gets our attention in a very negative way.
We do ban people. We don't have banning guidelines. Basically if someone is an incredible idiot and he or she brings that to our attention time and time again, that person will be given the boot.
The mods here have been told quite a few times that we're very mean and that we're a bunch of pricks. We don't mind. Like I said in the post about how the Sox are now America's least favorite team, I like playing the part of the bad guy. Besides, for every negative comment we get, we get 25 saying "thanks, you're doing a great job".
That's about all I got. Any comments, suggestions, complaints, or anything? Speak up! We might be mean, but we're not dictators, so we will make improvements if you have improvements you think we should make.
