Yesterday I tried out this recipe for gin-and-tonic cake, which a Twitter friend passed on to me. As the name suggests, it contains both gin and tonic, as well as lime and crushed juniper berries. It may sound a bit weird, but the results are fabulous: a deliciously moist citrussy cake that tastes EXACTLY like gin and tonic. It’s almost magical. ( ( Read more... )

The smell of gin has always put me off it rather, but I'd give your cake a try. I could always pass the recipe on to a friend who drinks gin, and bakes...

If it's the smell of gin that puts you off, you probably won't like this cake, because the primary scent is the juniper berries, which is basically the smell of gin!

Wonder if it'd work with the home-made Blackberry gin my mother gave me....

I would think it'd work, although if the blackberry gin is blackberry-coloured, you'll end up with a purple cake. But that sounds quite cool!

It is indeed Blackberry coloured.

My parents have a lot of brambles in their hedges. Ooodles of berries, so now she makes flavoured alcohol. (Sherry is divine, am pursuading her to try flavouring Pimms this year....)

Now that I've baked cookies in the new oven (new kitchen fitted, no oven until that point), I'm tempted to try a cake!
