First I want to say that you don't have it right. What you start at 5 or 6 is børnehaveklasse, and it is considered like school, because you do have exercises. So you might want to change some of the first part.

I femte klasse begynder eleverne at lære engelsk og to år senere lærer børnene tysk (some learn French, for your info ;). Så kan børn enden (what do you want to say here? Now you say butt) gå ud af skolen, eller de kan fortsætte i tiende klasse, som også afsluttes med en eksamen. Efter det kan eleverne begynde med universitetet(it's not university, you have to take gymnasium before that) og så bliver de studenter.

Der findes også (no meget) privatskoler som ligner folkeskoler, men som har forskellige profiler (what do you mean by this?).

No need to bake me a cake, but I am glad you appriciate it. I just hope it helps you get better ;) Don't hesitate to ask me again, it's so fast for me to check and I don't mind helping you.

I just wanted to tell you...after spending 9 days in Denmark I really got good at understanding it. I don't think I could before I went...and especially in hearing presentations by museum curators and such, I didn't understand them at all for like the first 3 days -I just kept understanding more and more by the end. Maybe it had to do with the dialects? I don't know. But I'm really happy about it! :) You can see my pictures here: http://public.fotki.com/tala/travel/denmark/2004/jutland_excursion/

Did you have a nice trip?

How good that it improved your Danish understanding! Do you mean Jutlandic dialect should be easier to understand? ;)

Oh, lot's of pictures! You have really been around! Nice to see Århus again, you know I used to live there. But I'm happy to be in Copenhagen, though. And Skagen!! Don't you just love that place??? It's so beautiful there.
I have to bring Xavi with me to see it this summer. I love to be there. Did you see some of the paintings by the 'skagens-malere'?

I did have a nice trip! And....well, probably I do mean the Jysk dialect. I'm not sure I've ever heard anything other than that. My first teacher came from Tønder, the teacher I have now comes from Læsø and the other one (who I haven't had, but have heard speaking a lot) comes from Aalborg. I didn't know you used to live in Århus -where did you grow up, actually? What were you doing in Århus?

I did love Skagen -it reminded me of the place where my family goes on vacation actually -ocean city new jersey. I think I have pictures of that place too somewhere online. And I did see the Skagen Museum with paintings by skagens-malere -they were neat. A good mix of realism and bold colors. :)

I grew up in Karlslunde, which is a little village 25 km south of Copenhagen (so I'm a suburb girl ;)

I went to Århus to live, because that's where the Danish School of Journalism is. So I lived there 1 ½ year, and then moved back to Copenhagen to do the work practice - I have to go back in september 2005.

Uh, I would like to see what Ocean City looks like...
I love skagens-malerne. Especially Krøyer. Their lives are also really fascinating - I read a biography on his wife Marie Krøyer, who was a painter too, but had to give it up.

1. You are totally allowed to kick my ass the next time I use "var" instead of "hvor" or any time I forget to put an H on my question words.
I meant 'even if there are children (in the class) who aren't as capable as the other pupils'.
3. About French: my books were written by the Danish minority in South Schleswig. Here, all the Danes I know (and even ones from North Schleswig and the rest of Jutland) know far more German than English. My first teacher couldn't even speak English, and she was 27. Admitting that not all Danes take German in school would almost be an outrage here...
I actually stole this sentence word for word: After that, chilren can leave school or continue in the tenth class. What do you mean by "now you say butt"?
5. Woops...forgot gymnasium...my bad...
6. "Der findes også (no meget) privatskoler som ligner folkeskoler, men som har forskellige profiler" (what do you mean by this?): I only wish I knew...this the other line I stole word for word. I know, I'm a dork.

-again, thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks.

3. Well, if you're writing about folkeskolen, you should also mention French, because a great part of the pupils learn French (outside of southern denmark, I suppose ;) I was taught French in school, and I never had German.
4. I don't know where you got that 'så kan børn enden gå ud af... this doesn't make sense AT ALL. Enden means 'the butt' in a very soft language. You should take out enden and then it makes sense.
5. It's the forskellige profiler. It's not uncorrect Danish, but my journalist-gene wants an explanation of what you mean by different profiles.
