Random crashiness

Jan 05, 2008 00:32

Started feeling a little fluish at work, so I went home and crashed for a solid two hours. Think I headed it off, but I'm still tired. EDIT: And judging by this post, apparently a little punchy. My step-father and his mom are coming up for lunch tomorrow. I was thinking of making either pizza or that macademia encrusted perch thing. Not sure if I ( Read more... )

The show you are thinking of is "30 Rock" which, I don't actually watch, but read the back of the DVD box recently and therefore know it's the one with Alec Baldwin.

I am a font of knowledge. Now if only *some* of it could prove useful for more than random trivia...

I liked Studio 60, too, but 30 Rock is written and produced by Tina Fey, who was the head writer for Saturday Night Live for about the past 7 or 8 years, and stars a bunch of SatNightLive alumni. I took (playful) issue with your calling it a clone of Studio 60 because her's is the more authentic of the two shows, I think. I mean they're different animals. She's still being absurdly funny, and Aaron Sorkin was trying to get more seriously behind the scenes. As a person somewhat experienced with writing comedy, I felt his early shows didn't get it right in terms of the show within a show's creation. Then I heard that they brought on a few writers who had created comedy (including what's his name from Kids In The Hall, who also starred in Studio 60, Mark something), and then that aspect got better. But I loved the characters and the more serious aspects of their arcs ( ... )

Mark McKinney. He acts in the show, not sure if he does any actual writing.

I cook a lot, but they pay me to write.

I feel much better, thanks!

Yes, yes, that's his name. He was also a staff writer on the show. He's credited with the story for two episodes and as writer (alongside Mr. Sorkin) on a third, but I suspect he and others reworked sections of many of the shows, as will often happen. Back when the show first aired, when it was in trouble, the LA Times ran an article on NBC's retooling of the show, and they listed him along with some others as being tasked with adjusting the comedy room "stuff." I remember the first three episodes or so just feeling "off" in that regard. When the writers were pitching, the new showrunners were responding to things as if they were funny that would probably hit the stink-o-meter in an actual pitch session. They seemed to speak more toward Sorkin's ideals and serious-mindedness rather than toward what would sound right to comedy showrunners. Then after the retooling, I felt that the comedy and show-within-a-show aspect of it began to hit it's stride and feel more "right." The verisimilitude there matched the feel of the characters ( ... )

Yeah, I read "Eating Well for Optimal Health" several years ago, and pretty much completely revised my eating habits.

Ever thought of getting a propane camp stove or something? They can be very cheap and efficient.
