2018: Start of it All

What? Time again for another Year in Review©? Well then.

...actually, this time is going to be a bit awkward. Because, you see, I only actually made like 12 posts in 2018. One of which was last year's Year in Review. So. Yeah.

February 3rd -  One of the many (some unwritten) lamentations of cryptocurrency. The price of Litecoin had peaked in late December of 2017 at $364, and in this particular entry I was talking about Litecoin hitting $160. As of this post, the price is $31. I remember laying in bed back then, trying to decide on whether I wanted to take a ~$500 loss in exiting crypto. Instead, chose to "HODL" like you are supposed to, in the hopes that prices recover. I haven't sold anything, but right now I am down 89%. I didn't invest more than I could afford to lose, but yeah know? I hate losing. We'll just have to see if any of this pans out in another year or two.

May 29th - I got married a week and a half prior. Married life continues to go extremely well to this day, with little to zero fighting or particularly major disagreements. Life is pretty easy when you're hanging out with someone you can be weird with every day.

August 26th - Went on the yearly beach vacation, and talked a bit about home repairs. At the time, we just finished the deck demolition and replacement. We haven't spent much time outside this year, but it makes me feel much better knowing the deck we have isn't threatening to collapse at any moment.

September 1st - Turned 35. One of my birthday presents was being informed that Jess was pregnant. Oops, spoilers.

October 17th - We completed the roof repairs/replacement. While insurance covered it a little bit, we ended up paying out several grand. The roof has held up (har har) fine thus far, and hopefully will continue doing so into the future.

November 20th - This was when I posted my thoughts about the pregnancy back in September.

That is pretty much where the posts end.

Baby-wise, we pretty much just have five months to go. The little nugget is a boy, the chromosome tests have come back normal, the ultrasounds have come back normal, and every indication is that this is a normal, healthy pregnancy. My wife has only had heartburn and mild nausea as far as symptoms go - zero morning sickness, knock on wood.

The house in general is not in any particular state of baby-readiness. Car seats will need to be bought, and we're thinking about renovating one of the basement rooms to serve as his room. That said, I'm not particularly worried about it. Our finances are good, our relationship is rock-steady, and both of us are prepared to do the things.

So, basically, life is good. Let's hope it continues to be in 2019.
