all about food

have been enjoying changi village lunches for the past few days, but i still find myself going back to the same wanton noodles, ayam penyet, chwee kueh and carrot cake stalls, because sometimes it's just not worth venturing out and trying something new when you've found the good stuff. it's just like how most of the people i know head straight for that nasi lemak stall when they are at changi village.

went in search of good dim sum at 126 sims avenue yesterday evening after getting wind of it from bratsche's blog, and we were not disappointed. was expecting the crowds to have thinned out by the time we got there (9pm), but i was wrong. at this no-nonsense eatery, the drinks come in HUGE plastic containers (those used for take-away chinese desserts) that there's no need for seconds. while i was at first quite suspicious of the chee cheong fun that came covered in a thick light brown sauce (not the usual hong kong-style), my worries were unfounded. the thick porridge served in a claypot was also comfort food. we'll go try all the fried items on the extensive menu when ck's cough goes away.

also wish to report that the burgers at changing appetites are HUMONGOUS. even i with the huge stomach couldn't finish up the thick beef patty in my mushroom burger. and the poor uncle colleague (the group of us were there for work) who ordered a burger with double beef patties had to stop halfway. heh. we are old and don't have the appetites of teenagers.

met up with d for dinner at indulgz (yes, the "z" gets to me too), but not before my friendly cab driver took me on the longest route between changi village and bugis junction. ECP would have been the quickest way, but no ... we went from the slow-moving traffic PIE to the equally slow-moving traffic CTE only to exit at bukit timah onto the slow-moving traffic serangoon area before crawling all the way to my destination *sigh*.
anyway, over the average dinner, we caught up on 6 months' worth of news. HEHE. i know, i'm a bad friend. if i'm in singapore, we'll probably do the standard chartered 10km run together this year. d tells me it's easy, but i beg to differ!!
