Now... Alice is almost entirely unnoticeable.. unless Belle Époque has just overwhelmed it entirely. I can't remember how long it's been... It was only on a couple hours, so that's a little disappointing. We'll see how long this one lasts.
BELLE ÉPOQUE - Bewitching Brews
“The Pretty Era”, France’s Golden Time: an age of beauty, innovation and peace in France that lasted from the 19th Century through the first World War and gave birth to the cabaret, the cancan, and the cinema as well as the Impressionist and Art Nouveau movements. Sweet opium, Lily of the Valley, vanilla, mandarin and red sandalwood.
In Bottle: When I first opened the bottle, it smelled undeniably French. Like the French perfumes my uncle sent me from Paris yeaaaars ago when I was younger. It’s very fragrant, and very perfume-like. I’m going to say it’s the Lilly of the Valley that’s doing that. It’s a common scent of perfume, imo. Yet it’s fresh, and not too heavy.
On Skin: A little stronger initially than it was just in the bottle. It’s sharper, possibly the sandlewood coming through, but I’m not sure I know what sandlewood smells like.
Wet: I can’t decribe it… but… I like it.
Drydown: I’m agreeing with most of the reviews here.. it’s very sophisticated and elegant… and just beautiful. It’s strong, and undeniably french, but it’s not overly so. It reminds me of candle/insence shops.. or dried flowers… I have no idea.
After Time: It’s light and french and floral and beautiful. It’s just grand and makes me feel warm and happy.
Final Verdict: I love it! Really. When the bottles first came in and I was sniffing them, I thought it might be too strong, but it’s really lovely. Elegant. Maybe not a daytime scent, but an summer evening scent… It’s definitely a keeper. :)
Next round: Bess
- Sniffing the bottles originally, I picked this one to be my likely favourite because it seemed to be the lightest of the group, surprisingly. I'm excited to try it out tomorrow.
