Good for you!! Look at it this way, now you know what not to do next time. ;-D Actually, it looks pretty good for a first attempt, especially since you did it on your own.

I had a girlfriend who took a series of Wilton Cake Decorating classes. She spent a small fortune on the classes and a large one on all the pans, tips, colorings and who knows what else. Her first (thru fourth, actually) cake had more colors, but didn't look this good.

Thank you for the encouragement. I'm definitely going to try it again.

1 - you can make the layers as thick or thin as you want, depends on how much cake you want lol
2 - it gets way easier the more you mess with it.
3 - A pizza cutter is freakin' awesome at cutting the fondant. And way sharper than those little plastic things
4 - Lesson learned lol
5 - it looks great for a first time!

Did you use canned frosting? Fondant is hard to smooth over canned stuff. Use buttercream, it's awesome.

Thank you for your help and advice. I really appreciate it.

No, I didn't use canned frosting. I actually bought a box of whipped topping (from Wilton) and a box of buttercream. I used the whipped topping instead of the buttercream, but I'll probably use the buttercream next time.
