In Conclusion: Hubris

Marnee and I took Rick to Prometheus last night for an early Father's Day gift, and he absolutely loved the film! So, success on that front. I too really really dug it. It's now right up there as some of the best sci-fi ever. I mean, if you love sci-fi and/or horror, you've gotta love the Alien films, and Prometheus is, in every definition of the word: AWESOME. Shaw (Noomi Rapace) gives Ripley a run for her money in the badass department, and David (Michael Fassbender) steals the freakin' show, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Idris Elba as the Captain is also especially captivating and memorable, and now I really just want his (back)story. Such an interesting (and hot--yowza) dude, that character. Also, there's a little family icky-ness, which you know I always get a kick out of, and of course the visuals of the film are simply gorgeous. Even when it's horrifying and utterly disgusting, it's so beautiful, and there are the Ridley Scott trademarks in the way the locations are shot and presented on the screen. This is a film right here, not just a movie. It's art. I loved it and highly recommend it to anyone on the fence!

What I learned from Prometheus: hubris, man--you best watch out for that! It'll get you every time!

Also, there were a couple noteworthy trailers beforehand.

First, watch this and tell me, if you're a SpN fan, that your mind doesn't immediately conjure up all sorts of scenarios linking this with the Winchesters. My favorite is the one where this is the film about the Winchesters, and for dramatic purposes they changed the two sons to two daughters, and it was really Dean who was possessed, and so on. Or, alternately, now we know John had more than three children, that dog!

Next, we have a film that I will most definitely be seeing in the theater. It hits all my buttons! We've got a great cast, including The Denzel, and a great director. We've got drama and conflict and Man-Pain!!! Plus, they used one of the best songs ever written in the trailer--The Stones' "Gimme Shelter". Count me in!

In conclusion, I am a film nerd. How are you doing?
