Friday, second day of vacation

Jul 12, 2002 23:59

Katie and I slept on the fold out couch in the living room, and woke up around 9am. We started making blueberry pancakes and a pot of coffee, and Jackie and Lien woke up just in time to eat. We used the blackberry syrup I bought at Kozlowski farms, it was very good. We had found some Wolf coffee in the freezer, so we used that, and it was still good too (interesting, cause my ex Chad used to work at Wolf coffee... very interesting indeed.. Memory lane)
We drove out to Sonoma after eating, abuot an hour drive, and arrived at Domaine Carneros for the 1pm tour. Took the tour, then bought three glasses (they taste by the glass, not by the, well, taste) and the cheese plate. Lien got Le Reve sparkling wine, aged 7 years, special reserve. I got the Rose sparkilng wine, and blend of sparkling wine and pinot noir; a nice pink color with tiny bubblesJackie for the Famous Gate Pinot Moir. All were special reserve, meaning only available at the winery. I thought the aged jack went best with the pinot noir, but the goat cheese was best with mine. Lien and I got tipsy, heh. Katie got the always lovely passionfruit mango juice squeeze. Also on the cheese plate besides the aged jack and goat cheese was brie and crackers, and a smoked salmon pate.

Anyway, after Domaine Carneros we had planned to go to Viansa Marketplace, but couldn't find it, so we went to Buena Vista instead. Their wine wasn't as yummy, but it was still fun tasting. They had the more traditional tasting thing going, where they pour a little, you taste, and rinse out your cup and move on. I had 4 tastes, the Sauvingon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet, and the sherry. I liked the Sauvingon, and we bought a bottle to have with the dinner we were planning to make on Saturday (mushroom scampi). The sherry was good for the one tiny taste, I don't think I could take more than that.

For a late lunch/early dinner we went to Mustard's Grill, supposedly this trendy place that Jackie was excited about. It was really good! We shared the onion rings appetizer, which turned out to be this huge mound of shredded and friend onion that you just had to pick at, and it came with the best ketchup ever (homemade). I think they were surprised when we didn't order wine, but we had had enough. Jackie and I each got, and could only eat half of, our fettuccini, Katie got the mushroom burger with fresh greenbeans and tomatoes, and Lien got fried Calamari with spicey sayced greens. For dessert Jackie for the huge-ass tart crisp with berries, peaches, and ice cream. We returned to the cabin after dinner to shower and rest. We put on sex in the city, and I think we are all now addicted to it. We also played cards. First we played Hearts, then when Katie went to bed and we switched to Indian Poker, which was just silly.

A fun day, and I got to sleep in the nice bedroom that night!
