Dover Race and fannish things

-It has been a quiet few days, but do want to note the Dover NASCAR Race.  I had a great time at the race, but wished there were more bus trips to the race (hates the drive to Dover).  I prefer under mile tracks or Road Courses over the D shaped tracks that dominate NASCAR currently.  When you get much over a mile, you can't see all of the action with your own eyes.  I got to see the whole action from my seat in the 20th row (including a massive crash including Joey Logano).  I didn't get as much free stuff as I would like (because alot of it had lines at them).  Weather wasn't the best, but they got all of the race in.  Mom had a good time at the slots even though she left it all there.  I am planning on renewing soon (debating whether I should because it is three weeks after Dragon Con next year).  It was a very nice and better (more energy) alternative to the Preakness.

-Saw something that maybe should surprise me, but didn't yesterday.  community.livejournal.com/con_central/236732.html is about a gaming convention (in Connecticut I think) called GameUnicon.  I think fausti may want to look at the thread.  Basically, the owner of this event has close to taken down a gaming store (probably too late to save) and is accused (going legally tight on this one) of stealing from someone's home to pay for it.  This is why I prefer that conventions are non-profits and have strong boards (Anime USA is one and has a BOD).  You must have oversight to know whether the Board needs to step in to stop something bigtime bad happening.

-T-MODE is doing something interesting that I hope those who want to be an active voice on things should look at.  This is an attendee advisory board. If you are interested in helping make the con better by giving your opinions, Please let Nick  know at evebts at tmode dot org.    tmode.org/what-other-conventions-dont-want-you-to-know-about-convention-planning is the link with more information. I think this is a good idea as it opens up the opinion pool, somewhat.  Many cons don't get tons of suggestions for guests and events (especially smaller ones).
