Cal Ripken World Series Final thoughts

Aug 23, 2009 13:09

I went to the Cal Ripken World Series final yesterday and as always I don't have pictures.  I must admit that I am not a Photo nut. The charm of watching 12 years old playing Baseball is lost on many people.  The fun for me is seeing the angles of a game.  You can't stand behind the left field wall at the Baltimore Orioles.  You can't even leave your seat at a Dodgers game unless you are getting food or using a bathroom. You get a different view of the game from out in the outfield and you have a better chance of getting a homerun ball.

The crowd was over 3,500 people.  There were very few seats available except out in the outfield which is a berm. It was a loud and boisterous crowd who was definitely behind the US kids. The small Mexican section was loud and supportive with a soccer style cheer every time they were at bat.   The food is very well done there (even though I didn't eat there yesterday).  You can get anything from Crab Pretzel to Pizza to Salads to eat along with many other food choices besides burgers, pizza and chips.  Everything is affordable foodwise.  You can get dinner for under $10 there.

The game was very good.  Just when the US champions (From Forest Hills, FL outside Tampa) had a chance to put the knock out punch, Mexico came back.  Mexico got caught in a home rundown  in the top of the fifth and then had three runs scored in the bottom of the fifth. A call I wouldn't have made, but I must remember they are 12 and not 22 year old Ironbirds. The coaches don't have 10 years of coaching experience in youth leagues either. That  would have killed most teams, but Mexico came back in the top of the sixth with two home runs that led to three runs. The US champions changed pitchers and they got the last three outs of the tournament to win the game 7-6.

In a little while, I will be going to see Ponyo at a local theatre. I am looking for the film and am prepared for a very sweet film.  I would love to find an anime that I can show to mom, so she can understand why I like this anime.

anime, baseball
