Random thoughts for A Friday

It is Friday and that I am glad of.  Yesterday was a very busy day for me at work and today has been just as busy for me.  Better to be busy than without a job. The Upper Montgomery team out of Rockville is in the US championship of the Cal Ripken World Series. I am very excited as a Maryland for them.  I am also enjoying my sugar free humble pie because I have long said that the Harford County and Maryland Champions should have to be the Mid-Atlantic champions to qualify.  Any time I say that again, I hope I get reminded of this team.  I hope I get to hear some Maryland, My Maryland cheers tomorrow.  Japan and Mexico just finished their game and Mexico won 1-0, a reversal of the game they played last weekend.

I think differently than most convention runners Especially anime con runners.  A few weeks ago, a person on the ACML started a thread saying, "What technology would you want the most for a convention?" Technology can help alot and I look forward to Evil Overlord twittering programming updates during Anime USA.  I think in terms of Who are some people I would do anything legally to get?  I read in yesterday's Baltimore Sun about Melissa Webb.  She is a local costume designer who would be a pretty good Craftsmanship judge in the Masquerade. I don't think she has competed in any masquerades, but just looking at her costumes impresses me.  www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/arts/bal-ae.li.costume20aug20,0,5866408.story is the story I read from yesterday's Baltimore Sun.

People like her are non-traditional people to fandom, but who would probably enjoy the chance to see our world some.  I think they are people we forget to invite into our world when we are looking for volunteers.  We always forget to look for people who may not be fans, but could still add something to the convention.  If I ever could get my Iron Cosplayer idea finished, a judge I would love to have is the head of costuming at the Washington Opera.  He or she would be someone who can give a unique view to the whole process of costuming.
