Yayness, I updated fast this time. *attempts to pat self on back but just ends up falling backwards out of chair* Owwness.
Title: Fireworks
Fandom: Tales of Symphonia
Rated: T for language and implications
Summary: A Tales of Symphonia sequel. Too many pairings to list and lots of onesidedness. Rated T for language, implications and... Zelos, as usual. I'll improve this summary later...
Genre: Romance/General
Again, you can ignore the a/n's. But read them anyway if you want. I was hyper.
On with the story!
Okay, I finished writing this chapter today at school. A bit of fluff in this one. Nothing big though. And still only two reviews for last chapter? Come on, was it THAT bad::sigh:: Anyway, on to typing. And that first scene I wrote with a writing exercise (thankees to FlufflyBunny [
electrumqueen]for the prompt) and just HAD to include. ‘Cause I like it. Yeah. No more procrastinating through a/n’s. ::forces self to type::
Disclaimer: Don’t own anything/anyone/anywhere in here ‘cept my OC, Vash Setera.
Fireworks Chapter 4: The Dinner Party
Zelos stands waiting outside the door of Sheena's hotel room, as he'd been volunteered to wait for her while everyone else went on to Regal’s mansion. Sheena had been taking an overly long time to get ready.
“Sheena! Come ON, you've been getting ready for half an hour!” Zelos whines. No response. A moment later, “SHEE-” He is cut off by her exiting her room.
And he is stunned.
The ninja is wearing a gorgeous lavender dress that shows off a little less cleavage than normal and skims the ground with a short train. Amethyst earrings dangle down to her shoulders and a matching necklace, simple but elegant, adorns her neck. Her raven-black hair isn’t in its usual ponytail; instead, it has been brushed to perfection and left down, with only a butterfly clip holding her bangs to one side.
She blushes a violent shade of crimson as Zelos looks her up and down with his mouth hanging open. “Shut your mouth before you catch a fly,” she snaps. He immediately obeys and holds his elbow out to escort her; she gently places her hand on the proffered arm and walks down to the ball room.

Colette sneaks out of the dinner party quietly, then takes off at a run towards the opposite side of Regal’s mansion, not really paying attention to where she’s going.
Finally, she stops in the study by the garden. She grabs a thick, soft pillow from the couch, studies it for a moment, then mashes it to her face and screams into it as long and loud as she can.
“Lloyd, you can be so frustrating!” she cries into the pillow before abandoning it to collapse onto the sofa.
Of course, it’s all her fault, or so she thinks anyway. She’s the one that was stupid enough to ask him, “How do you think of me?” Lloyd, being his typical clueless self, had told her that he loves her like he would a kid sister.
She doesn’t want him to love her like a kid sister.
Dashing a few angry tears from her eyes, she sighs and leans back onto the couch. A few minutes of rest and recovery, then she’s return.
“What’s wrong?”
Colette jumps, startled, pulling out her chakram as she jerks around to face the voice. “Oh, it’s just you,” she says after seeing Vash standing in the doorway. She turns away again to wipe her face and sit back down.
“Just me? Nice way to greet someone,” he replies coolly.
She looks at her feet. “Sorry. I’m… frustrated right now.”
“I’ve noticed.” He pauses, then asks, “Care if I join you?” She nods, moves over, and he sits beside her.
“You want to talk about it?” he asks quietly.
“Not really.” But a moment later, she blurts out, “It’s Lloyd.”
“Ah, romantic trouble.”
“Well, I suppose you could call it that.” She pauses, then adds, “How could you tell?”
“It’s pretty obvious.”
“Well, apparently it isn’t to him. That’s the problem. Totally clueless.”
“Isn’t that normal for him?”
“Yeah. But it’s still frustrating.”
“Maybe you should just give up on him.” There is a strange look in his eyes as he says this, but Colette doesn’t notice.
“I’ve tried. I can’t.”
“Let someone else take his place. From my perspective, he’s not worth the trouble.”
“I… don’t think I can. It’s been like this since I first met him. I can’t just give up that easy.” She sighs. “It’s hard to explain.” She looks down and begins to study her hands.
Vash nods, “I understand,” and Colette looks back at him with a confused look in her face. “I’ve felt the same way.” He smiles gently. “I managed to get over her, though it was hard.”
“How?”
“I found someone else. It was just a passing thing though.” He shifts himself, looking a bit awkward at first, then looks directly into her eyes.
Beautiful, Colette thinks again. They’re inching closer, slowly, slowly, and then--
“Colette!” Raine calls. They must have noticed she was gone.
“We should go back,” Vash says.
“Please don’t tell-”
“I won’t.” They walk out of the room and Raine spots them.
“There you are! It’s time to eat. Hurry before the boys can’t hold themselves back,” she rolls her eyes.
Vash grins. If he were there he’d be doing the same thing. Colette just smiles fondly, and Vash knows who she’s thinking of. They follow the professor back to the dining room.
Colette and Vash continually glance at each other for the rest of the meal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lloyd twirls his fork in one hand, watching the others eat as if there’s no tomorrow. He’s not hungry for some reason, even though he barely ate lunch.
Why is Colette acting like that? he asks himself. First she asks me that weird question, now she’s looking back and forth between me and that man.
“So, Lloyd. How’s the exsphere journey going?”
The professor’s voice jerks him out of his reverie, and, speaking of jerks, Zelos answers before Lloyd can come back to his senses.
“It’s going really well! We’ve destroyed a lot of the ranches. Yuan has been helping me with locating and infiltrating them.” He grins amiably.
“I think we pretty much have one ranch left. It’s near Triet.”
“Not the Renegades?” Sheena asks.
“No, we’ve spoken to Yuan about that. He swears he had nothing to do with it, but he says he’s sure it’s Desians. Me and Zelos-”
“-Zelos and I-” Raine corrects him. (Genis snickers in the background and she slaps him.) It’s an old habit she just can’t break.
“-Zelos and I are going there next.”
“Ooh, can we go with you?” Colette asks hopefully.
“No, it’s too dangerous-”
“No it isn’t!” Zelos retorts. “Of course you can come, my little angel.”
“Let’s all go together, for old time’s sake,” Colette suggests.
“That sounds nice,” Sheena adds. “I’m in.”
Several murmurs of agreement; only Vash is silent.
“May I… go with you as well?” he asks after everyone quiets down.
“Of course!” Colette smiles.
Lloyd sighs. “This isn’t a field trip, you know.” Everyone laughs.
“We know, Kratos,” Genis replies through his laughter.
“I have to make sure George can cover for me,” Regal says.
Everyone groans. “Come on, Regal!” Sheena coaxes.
“Party pooper!” Zelos calls.
“Fun sucker!” Genis adds with a grin, receiving another smack from his sister.
“I’ll try,” he rephrases himself.
“Okay! This’ll be fun,” Colette finishes cheerfully.
“Master Regal, are you ready for dessert?” asks a maid from the doorway.
“Yes, I believe we are.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A cake is brought out. “Too pretty to eat!” Colette cries upon seeing it. It’s yellow cake with white icing; “Happy 18th, Colette!” is written on it in big letters, and below it is a picture of her walking in front of all the others, wings spread out in all their glory.
Genis decides to show off by lighting the candles with fireballs and ends up singeing Zelos’s hair.
“Oh, my gorgeous hair!” he yelps, to which everyone laughs.
“The fact that you’re serious is what makes you so scary,” Lloyd chokes.
“Hurry up and sing before the candles burn out!”
And so they sing, Zelos pretending to conduct.
“Make a wish!”
I wish… Lloyd would figure itout, she thinks, then blows the candles out.
Everyone cheers, and she looks at Lloyd joining in. Patience, she tells herself, and then glances at Vash. He’s less enthusiastic, and he’s staring at her.
She looks away, disconcerted. He must know what I wished for, and she almost feels ashamed. Then she looks at Lloyd again, who’s grinning at something Zelos said, and all the shame melts away.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s because she loves him, Vash thinks. She really won’t give up.
But is it strength or naïveté?
Soo? Be honest in your reviews please, a few of these scenes seemed a bit awkwardly-worded. Review! Thankeesmuches. And “fun sucker” be Bubbles’ creation.
