Prologue Chapter 1
I look at the file that the Korean police had send over, opening the vanilla coloured file and look at the contents. A photograph of a good-looking young man stared back at him. Scanning through the details, Name: Park Yoochun, Age: 24 (a year older than him), details of the undercover jobs that he had been on. Most of them were small cases; none of them could match the magnitude of the current one. I put the file aside and took the one I’ve got Sungmin to prepare for me. This was thicker than the previous file.
Inside were more photographs of the smiling young man. I read through the information Sungmin got for me. It seems that Park Yoochun also known as Micky was a healthy heterosexual male, quite the ladies man, having a stream of ex-girlfriends, a few from the police force too. Current status was single, so there wouldn’t be any clingy girlfriends to deal with. Financially stable, no signs of debts, which was good, one less point for the mafia to use. However there are many things which can’t be found from a file, whether he was trustworthy, was he corruptible? Would the man be an asset or a liability to them in the case? I would know more when I see him tomorrow.
I had helped arrange for him the accommodation in one of my dad’s many housing projects near to where we were staying, easier for us to keep an eye on him. I had also make sure that Park Yoochun would have the same classes as me so that I could observe the man and he could help us if the need arises. Everything was put in place, now all I have to do is to wait for tomorrow to come to meet the man. I had discussed with the rest and they have agreed that it would be best that we should somehow befriends Park Yoochun so that in case anything happens and we need the help of the local police it would be easier, however all have agreed that we would not divulged our own identities to him unless absolutely necessary.
The next day, I went to school, knowing that I had to find a way to get to know Park Yoochun without him getting suspicious of me. I met Sungmin along the corridors on my way to class.
“So, today is the day, huh?” Sungmin asked, looking around to make sure that no one was listening to our conversation before speaking.
“Yes.”
“So, have you thought about how you’re going to get close to him?”
“I’m not sure, just go with the flow and be natural, I guess. I don’t want to be too obvious.” I answered.
“Ha ha, true, so all you have to do now is to wait for Park Yoochun to turn up.”
“Any advice on what I should do after that?”
“Don’t be too hard on yourself. I think you will do just fine on your own, I don’t think you need any advice from me. Just be your own charming self and they will flock to you like bees to honey.”
“In case you forget, this Park Yoochun guy is a player from what his file says, I don’t think he will be charmed that easily.” I stared at Sungmin; my friend seems to be finding this funny.
“Anyway, we won’t know unless we try and our target is coming this way as we speak.”
“Shit! What? He’s coming this way?”
“Yup, he’s coming this way. Remember, just smile.”
“Damn you, I could just strangle you.”
“Ha ha, you need me so you can’t kill me.” Sungmin teased, just as I felt a hand tapping my shoulders. I braced myself before turning back with a bright smile.
“Sorry, were you talking to me?” I asked as I turned around to smile at Park Yoochun. There was no response from the guy after I said that. He was just standing there, blanking staring at me. Was there something on my face?
Sungmin on the other hand had retreated when Park Yoochun came up to tap Xiah on the shoulder. He hid a smile when he saw the guy’s reaction to Xiah’s smile, he was not the first to fall under the spell of that smile and nor will he be the last. There was no indication when he was finding out information on him that Park Yoochun could swing both ways. This case was getting interesting.
I waved my hand in front of Yoochun trying to get his attention but the man was obviously somewhere else.
“Hello, hello?” I said, hoping that this would at least get some response from the guy. He finally seemed to recover somewhat and repeated the question he asked earlier.
“Excuse me, do you know how to get to this place? My class is starting soon and I have no idea how to get to it.” He said, waving a piece of paper with his class schedule on it.
“Ok, let me take a look. Oh, you are taking the same class as me. Why don’t you follow me?” I said after pretending to look over the piece of paper though I already know it by heart. I walked down the corridor to our class, looking behind to see that Park Yoochun was following me. I smiled at the man when he did.
“So, what’s your name? My name is Kim Junsu; I’m a second year student majoring in psychology. What about you?” I asked, remembering to use the name for the mission and hoping that my questions were causal and natural enough.
“Erm… My name is Park Yoochun, or Micky, I’m also a second year student majoring in psychology.” Micky said somewhat nervously.
“Why haven’t I seen you around?” I asked him, wanting to see how Micky would react to this question.
“Err… I tend to keep a low profile, maybe that’s why you never noticed me.” Micky replied. I smiled at the answer given; I known the other was trying to cover his tracks.
“Ha ha… Micky, don’t underestimate yourself. You do know you’re quite striking and I don’t think I will miss seeing someone like you in the class.” I teased; the look on Micky’s face was priceless. I could tell that he thought I was trying to hit on him.
“No, I’m not hitting on you.” I replied with a smile to the expression on Micky’s face.
“How did you know what I was thinking about?” Micky asked in bewilderment, confusion on his face.
“Ha ha, the expression on your face gave you away.” I laughed again; the guy was so easy to read.
“Am I that easy to read?” He had no idea, the man was simply clueless.
“Maybe.” I answered smiling mysteriously. It seems like the case wouldn’t be that boring after all.
“You don’t think you are attractive, well, you should open your ears more, didn’t you hear the whisperings among the girls since we started walking.” I leaned close to whisper to Micky as I saw the girls talking and gesturing about the man. He must be blind not to notice all that or was he too used to the attention that he didn’t noticed it anymore?
Micky stopped to look around him when he heard what I said. I noticed when the steps beside me faltered; I turned around and grabbed Micky’s hand to pull him along with me. I like the feel of his hands on mine; his hands were warm to the touch.
“Come on, I don’t think you want to miss your class today. So who do you usually hang around with? Maybe I’ll know some of them?”
“Err… like I said before, I’m pretty much a loner.”
“Ok. Here we are. Let’s get a seat.” I said as we finally reached the doorway of our class. I looked around for the others, knowing that they would be anxious about meeting Park Yoochun too.
“Junsu hyung, we saved a seat for you.” Changmin waved at us from the back of the room.
“Come on, let’s go, let me introduce some of my friends to you.” I said to Micky as I pulled him along into the class, squeezing past bodies to get to the back where Changmin was.
“Changmin, this is Micky, he’s also a second year psychology major, I met him along the corridor wandering around.” I said to Changmin exchanging a look with him.
“Hyung, you should stop that habit of picking up stray and lost animals. You can’t save them all.” Changmin said in a straight face. I just laughed at his silly joke though I could tell Micky was not that amused by the frown on his face.
"Micky, this is Changmin, as you can see, he's like a naughty little brother I never have." I said as I introduced the two. Changmin just grinned a mischievous smile at me.
“Junsu”, another voice called out my name, I knew it was Yunho. I turned to look at where he and Jaejoong were sitting. Micky followed and his eyes widened when he saw who was with Yunho. I could hear him muttering something under his breath. It sounded like Jaejoong’s name but I pretended not to hear it.
“What did you say?” I asked.
“Nothing.”
“Come, let me introduce another two friends to you.” I said as I walked to where Yunho was sitting.
“Micky, I like you to meet Yunho and Jaejoong. Yunho is the ugly one and Jaejoong is the pretty one beside him.” I laughed as I was saying this, trying to lighten the mood since Yunho could be a pain in this kind of situation.
I could tell Micky was assessing the situation at hand when he continued to stare at both Yunho and Jaejoong after I introduced them. Yunho was doing some staring back of his own. I sighed when I saw that, he could be too obvious at times.
“Hyung, stop that, you’re scaring people.” I said to Yunho, hoping that he get the hint.
“Sorry, so where did you pick up him up, along the corridors?” Yunho teased, getting the hint and trying to get back at me with that question. He must have heard Changmin when he said that.
“Why do you people keep saying that? I don’t do that.” I said in exasperation, the blush escaping on to my cheek.
“Yes, you do.” Three voices chimed in unison. Damn them for acting like that when you least want them to. I’m so going to get them tonight. I stared hard at them and they noticed, squirming in their seats in their unease, trying to escape from my stare.
“Attention, class.” Luckily for them, the teacher’s voice broke our chat and we got back to our seats. I settled down beside Micky and pretended to pay attention to the class though my mind was trying to compile what I have learnt about Park Yoochun so far.
