A Post of Pictures

Today has been blissfully uneventful and my back is much better. It's been so good that I've been able to stay at my computer all day long, an accomplishment that may be lost on some people, and all this has made me a happy woman. It also gave me some time to look at a few of the photographs I captured last night and take a tad more. Most of the ones I took today were for shits and giggles, like the ones of my computer and desk, but I realized that some may be able to glean the little tidbits of my personality by how I arrange the space I spend the most time at.

The first pictures will be in this latter category and can be skipped if you'd like.

First of all, I must say that I am extraordinarily excited to have my little Cylon action figure standing by my monitor now.

Long story short, when I saw a friend's collection of Cylon Centurions recently, I became insanely jealous. After careful consideration, I decided to buy my own Cylon figure. It came in the mail yesterday and I opened it up like a little girl on Christmas day. It's so cool. :D

I racked my brain for a good name, something that began with a C (of course), and finally came up with Cameron, a la T:SCC style. The pose I put it (her?) in had a very "come hither" look, making my mind immediately wander to the classic Terminator phrase "come with me if you want to live." This in turn led me to my love affair with the now-canceled Sarah Connor Chronicles. The name of their Terminator (Cameron) stuck with me even if the Cylons wanted to destroy humanity, not save it. Well, Skynet wanted to do that too. *shrug*

I included the second picture because of the strange red effect I created by covering up my flash. It looks like it's/she's downloading information from my computer. Uh oh...

These next few photos are of my computer and desk.

The picture below is my computer desk, as crude as it may look it's served me well for the past three years. I'm hoping to get a new one soon. There's my monitor of course, propped up on books because of my new chair, and Cameron. To the left, right, and top center are my speakers (two in the rear) along with my two Kingdom of Heaven sword replicas hanging on either side. Then there's the mouse and keyboard, a great combo of a Logitech G15 and MX1000. I'm also replacing the mouse pad soon with a Razer eXactmat in the next week or whenever it arrives in the mail. Other odds and ends include my rubber band ball, my pocket watch, and my cell phone. I did clean house before I took the picture so imagine lots of receipts and cans everywhere and you have my normal work area.

This next photo is the inside of my computer, home built. Nothing too special. Got a different fan for the video card, huge heatsink/fan combo for the CPU, and my old external hard drive is resting happily in the foreground. The wires I'm still working on even if the airflow isn't too bad, so it just looks like an ugly mess. There's only so much you can do when you've crammed four hard drives, two extra fans, three PCI devices, and the other computer essentials into a case, no matter how big it is.

The next few photos can all be found on my flickr account if for some reason you're compelled to look at it. It's just getting started, much like my photography, and I want to help it grow as much as I can.

This photo I just like a lot and think I did a pretty good job on it, if I may say so myself. I took it this past spring as I went for one of my strolls. The snow had almost melted on the mountains, the wind was blowing, and I just couldn't pass up the shot. If the grass had been more to the left it might be a tad better...meh.

Starting off the night photography, this picture below was the first I took. Operating from my bedroom window I was awestruck at how my neighbor's light, which normally annoys me, created a ghostly image in the early morning fog. Set the camera up on the window sill, set the exposure (a whopping 23 seconds), and let it do its thing. This is what I got out of it. Oh, and I didn't change the image at all in photoshop or something similar...the light lost its yellow-orange effect that I loved so much when I did that.

Here's the moon. It was a hard crop to make too.

The last one I'll show right now is larger than the rest here, so be warned.

This is a picture of my street in the early morning, around 0400 if I recall correctly, and just looks...fun. To the very right of the image you can see a faint pink color in the sky: the effects of living in a city (well, a city for VT anyway) that many of you are probably familiar with.

The whole night photography experience was lovely, helped by the fact that the moon was still rather large in the sky. One funny tidbit: the man delivering the papers actually drove by while I was doing all this. He even said hi as he went by my box. Maybe he didn't think I was a lunatic after all.

The only picture I wasn't able to include in this post was one of my katana. No matter how I posed my arm or the blade the picture just wouldn't come out. It's a shame too, my katana is not only my newest sword but my favorite. It's small, compact, and deadly, much like me. Well, the small bit at least. Perhaps someday I'll have a better picture of it and, when I do, I'll post it.

This post took much longer than I anticipated, not to mention the image editing I did prior to writing this. If it weren't so late (and I wasn't itching to get back to my Civilization IV game) I'd discuss a few other issues that have been on my mind. As a compromise, I'll list them emotionlessly. My father, who has been having problems since his father and son died, is a week and a half sober and thinking about going to an outpatient rehab center. He also got a DUI recently that I didn't know about. I've gotten no response to my job application I posted for this library job I'd really like. It'll be two weeks Friday that the job has been posted and I'm not sure what to do. There's no number to call (it's all online) and I'm not sure how appropriate it would be to use my influence at said library to inquire about what's going on (the job I've applied for is in an office where everyone loves me...no joke). I just...don't know.
