The past few days have not been pleasant. My neck has been horribly stiff and sore, creating headaches to boot. This has lasted for probably three days now, yesterday being the worst, and only a few hours previous has the Advil really started to work.
I'm not sure how I got these neck aches, I've never had them so bad, but I'm suspicious of the neck problems I had a week ago with my sleeping protest/quest. I feel the strain in the very back and to the left, right where my shoulder is attached to my body. It's been...painful at times. Yesterday, as I said above, was the worst and not only required me to limit my computer usage (the sheer horror!) but it gave me a decent sized headache that left me passed out by 2200 (after ingesting some sleeping aids). I did get to watch a few tv shows before that, resting my neck in the best way possible. The best episode I saw was The Big Band Theory which, in all fairness, is a pretty funny show and I should watch it more often. I caught a reference to BSG halfway through and laughed at myself for the outrage I felt at the character not being able to see it on Wednesday (Wednesdays, seriously?!). Why must I yell at my tv whenever I hear the words Battlestar and Galactica strung together? Sigh.
Today has gotten better with time. I woke up feeling ok and I took breaks from my computer every hour to rest, and stretch, my neck. Although laying down seems to put as much strain on my neck as sitting at my computer, I would read every time I had to get away. It was...refreshing. I've gotten back into David Weber's so-called "Honoverse" and picked up the third book. It makes me happy.
Ugh. I keep moving, stretching, twisting my neck but nothing helps. I lie down, I sit up, I stand up...it doesn't change my neck's unhappy state. I also feel the front of my neck tighten and breathing sometimes seems more strained than usual. It's been going on for at least three days (that I've been consciously aware of) and I'm starting to wonder at what point I should see a doctor about it. I've been downing the water to keep the headaches at bay, much more than I've normally been drinking, and limiting my caffeine intake. It's just...continually sore necks can't be good, right?
I think my break is nearing. Maybe some stretches too or a little ice pack. Devil neck. Anything that keeps me away from my computer for long periods of time must be banished from this realm. It's really hard to play Oblivion for less than an hour at a time...and don't get me started on how my Civilization game has been going (or not). Let's hope it clears up soon or I am just go mad.
