Lots of Rain...And More Rain!

So, yeah, my state is fairing too well in this storm. A woman was swept away by flood waters and is presumed dead, numerous small towns and even the capital is pretty much flooded (or will be flooded) before Monday morning, and 43,000 people are without power. Explains why my internet is so sluggish.

It's actually rather scary up here. We had problems in the spring of flooding all over the state and now, with inches of rain being poured on is in less than 24-hours, the areas that have already had floods are now preparing for the worst. And I mean the worst. Interstates have been closed, bridges damaged or destroyed, homes floating away, and whole rivers bursting their banks. They are even saying that, by the end of this, we could have record flooding like we've never seen before. Right now, the biggest concern are the three big rivers in the state, including the Winooski River, barely a mile away from here, is close to damaging the dam. Residents in the city, where I used to live, are being evacuated. That could have been me a few years ago.

As for myself, I won't lie and say I haven't been a bit worried. Not crazy worried but still an anxious worry that keeps me looking outside at the power lines every so often, or even be waiting for the power to go out on me at any moment. Never helps that work keeps sending me texts on their alert management system that tells me "HIGH WINDS. STAY INSIDE!" Yeah, thanks.

Well, I have stayed inside. Worked on a fic that was inspired by the rain in all honesty, updated my fic journal so that 75% of my fic are now moved over, watched a ton of X-Files episodes on Netflix (OMG, nostalgia!!!), and spent most of my day at the computer just...writing and reading. Oh, with the occasional glance outside my window. The winds did get pretty high today. I wonder what the night will bring....

And, if you care, the headline news from my state's biggest newspaper. I'm not sure how NYC did but we were definitely not ready for this, nor could we have been. The state just isn't made for this sort of storm.

Either way, work is still closed for tomorrow, I still have a doctor's appointment tomorrow (if I want to try and make it), and my landlord is coming over with an inspector tomorrow. *sigh*

Sorry if I bore you with this but it's just crazy. I think I need some comfort TV. I was on episode 2 of the X-Files so maybe I'll continue that run. Then, if my power does go out (I'm surprised it hasn't yet, in all honesty), then I'll read by headlamp. Fun times. Ugh.
