The Teams Comes Together (Enemy Within Meta)

Aug 13, 2007 21:40

Sorry this is late. It's also not as indepth as I would have liked, but someone seems to have stolen my ability to articulate myself. Warning: there are mentions of future episodes. If you haven't viewed the entire series and are a spoilerphobe, you might want pass on this.

Forgive me as I get a bit melodramatic )

This episode is all about the Teal'c for me. And I just love that scene between him and Jack when he asks if he's a prisoner. It just cements the basis for their deep friendship right into place.

I often think that had Jack lied to Teal'c that there would have been a very different outcome in his ability to trust and help the Tau'ri.

Excellent establishing episode.

That's a really, really good point. This episode could have been a make or break point in how Teal'c allied with the Tau'ri. Good thing Jack is a good judge of character :)

Lovely summary - especially your character profile for Teal'c, Jack, and Hammond.

They really did shine in this ep, didn't they? I love all the characters. I really, realy do. But I found that jack, teal'c, and Hammond just stood out so well in this one. It's one of my fave episodes for foundational character development for them.

Lovely episode recap.

Teal'c is a terrific character, and I've loved watching both the actor and the character evolve over the past ten years.

Another item I've noted that Teal'c's speaking voice in season one (when we heard it), was very soft-spoken, almost gentle.

As the seasons progressed, Teal'c's voice volume increased, and the style of his speech evolved. Teal'c found his place in a new world, and Christopher was more centered as Teal'c.

Thank you for the attention to detail that you gave this wonderful episode. Looking forward to more reviews.

Thank you! And I definitely agree that Teal'c (and CJ) found his place.

I agree with you that this is really Hammond Teal'c and Jack. It's early on, we're still establishing characters, but Sam and Daniel and Jack's dynamic started in the pilot. Here is the development of that bond we saw instantly between Jack and Teal'c.

They connected with each other as characters so naturally and already trusted each other (going back to "saving Jack's life goes a long way with him"). But yet they are still so alien to each other. It cemented that relationship as one of the most fascinating for me.

Hammond's role was more straight military, but already Davis was breaking out of that stock role. He didn't trust Teal'c, but he respected him...and already seemed to trust Jack's judgment as you fleshed out (watching with 1969 eyes puts a whole new dynamic on it too).

So, the short answer...I agree. Heh.

Great meta, moonshayde! :-D

(But I'm still going to plug my favorite friendship, Sam and Daniel. She was so sympathetic for him while he was angsting on Sha're. Aw!)

If you watch through 1969 perspective, you have to give Hammond a lot of credit. he knows that one day he'll have to write a note to give to Sam. He knows that once, long ago, he met four people that are now under his command right now. He doesn't know the how or why. I'm sure he has doubts ( ... )

I thought a nice touch was when Hammond called Teal'c "son". It couldn't be because he was filled with feelings of warmth and trust, because George still had serious doubts. And it had to be something more than habit, because even if you call everybody "son", you're not likely to forget yourself and call an enemy alien that!

I think it was meant to show support. In a room full of people who were determining his future, one man had Teal'c's back.

That's a very good point. I also think Hammond, like Jack, is a great judge of character. However with years of experience behind him and the title of general, unlike Jack, he needs to hold some more restraint when dealing with people.
