Our own "Biggest Loser" competition...

Inspired by the television show that many of us love, my sister, mom, and I decided we would do a similar competition, but amongst ourselves. As of January 1st, we're going to start a little friendly competition to see who can lose the greatest percentage of body weight, starting January 1st and ending 12 weeks later on April 1st.

The way it's going to work is thus: each of us pledges $15 and adds it to a pot. We will weigh ourselves every Tuesday, starting with our beginning weight on January 1st. We will use whatever exercise and dieting methods we see fit (nothing drastic allowed, which is cause for forfeiture of the $15 as well as disqualification) and report our ending results at the end of every Tuesday. No more than that has to be done, but it's helpful if a diet and exercise journal is involved. The way to calculate your weight loss percentage is by taking how many pounds you've lost and divide it by your current weight. Multiply it by 100 and that makes it a percent. At the end of the competition, we'll divide the total amount we lost by our original weight and multiply that by 100 in order to determine who wins. (If I'm wrong, please let me know.)

In this sort of contest, you get to know one another and your competitors become your support network. The competition drives your success. Even if you don't win the pot, you could already be well on your way to a new, healthier you. And that kind of motivation is priceless, in my opinion.

So far, our group has managed to grow by one--my friend Nemils is going to do it with us. Any of the rest of you who would like to enter the competition, male or female, young or old, near or far, please let me know by December 31st. If you'd like to make a change in your life or just be updated on how we're doing with ours, let me know and I'll try to include you in a newsletter of some sort (although lots of this is still in the works).

My only request is that if you are of a normal weight range, please do not enter the competition. It wouldn't be fair.

Please message me if you want any details I haven't provided!

Thanks and good luck,
Amy
