Sorry to hear about your mom -- I'll send good thoughts her way. Your apendix...is that the thing in your stomach area, as opposed to the back of your throat? I think the throat things are tonsils? My medical knowledge is pitiful.
Baby anythings make my heart go pitter-pat these days, although I admit to a propensity towards humans. There's a mourning dove who made a nest in the end of our garage gutter right above one of our clotheslines. She sat there blinking at me while I took down the laundry today -- I don't think she was there when I hung it out earlier. Not sure. This must mean that soon we'll have baby mourning doves for neighbors, though, which is cool. I think it must be boring as heck to sit on a nest for ages on end, but then that's me. Presumably birds have a different viewpoint of the matter.
Congrats on driving! I should get a permit one of these days, but I never seem to have much incentive. Plus, I don't know how I/we would pay for insurance if I got a license. And, after years of having only three drivers in the family and only three cars, I'm not sure anyone wants to share cars with me! Our old Ford Escort was supposed to be shared by all the kids as we learned to drive, but since I never got around to it, it's really become Rachel's car. Hmmmm.
Oh, and we always leave notes on the bathroom mirror, too. Heh.
